Outdoor Worship September 27 at 11:30 am

Reserve Your Space by September 25
We miss you! We’re eager to resume in-person, indoor services when and how health experts believe it’s safe to do so. While we’re waiting for that day, we’re excited to invite you to two short outdoor worship services in our parking lot on Sunday, September 27 and Sunday, October 25, both at 11:30. The services would be held--in your lawn chairs (not your cars)--in the north end of the parking lot, nearest the church doors. Pastor Martha, Patrick and Jay will lead the services from the sidewalk near the doors.

To ensure your safety and comfort, we’ll limit attendance at the services so that households are spaced six feet apart and yet close enough to Pastor Martha, Patrick and Jay to hear the service as it’s broadcast through a sound system.

If you’re interested in attending one of the services, please reserve your space by Friday, September 25 by contacting Judy St. Vincent at 608-838-1677 or

We’ll follow the latest precautionary guidelines from health officials, the ELCA, the Wisconsin Council of Churches and Dane County. For everyone’s safety, if you attend the services, we ask you to:

• Bring your own chair
• Bring and wear a mask
• Park in the south end of the parking lot
• Observe physical distancing
• Follow directions from greeters / ushers as they guide you to and from your reserved space
• Refrain from singing and speaking as a congregation
• Use hand sanitizer
• Avoid entering the church building; it will be locked and restrooms will not be available

At this time we’re planning to record the outdoor services and make them available online within a couple days after the service. The recorded services that we’ve been offering would not be available on those two Sunday mornings.

We’re thankful for your patience, flexibility, faithfulness and care for one another as we work out the remaining details for the outdoor services. If it rains at the time of the service, we’ll cancel it. And we'll evaluate these first two outdoor services for potential continuation further into the fall.

We’re praying for your ongoing health and safety!

Online Worship Dates Revised

For the health and safety of our community of faith, we are offering online worship temporarily instead of gathering physically on Sunday mornings in the sanctuary. To understand your feelings about resuming in-person worship services, we sent you the "Resuming In-Person Worship" survey in June. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey. Based on your feedback in the survey and the recent upswing in COVID-19 cases in Dane County, the Church Council has decided to continue online worship through December 31. The council will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate as is prudent. Please watch for your August Dialogue to read more about what you told us in the worship survey.

17th Sunday After Pentecost

The Gospel for this Sunday:

Matthew 21:23-32

Modeling Christ

Jesus’ parable about two sons who don’t do what they say reveals surprises in the reign of God. In the reading from Ezekiel the people claim the ways of the Lord are unfair, while God offers repentance and new life. Paul urges us to look to Christ as a model of humility, putting the interests of others above our own. Nourished by the broken bread and shared cup, we offer our lives for the sake of our needy world.

We've Come This Far By Faith: A focus for 2021

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops.
Proverbs 3:9

While I don’t know everyone’s story, I know enough of them to know that 2020 has been a pretty tough year for LELC folks, both collectively and individually. Collectively and individually we have known loss and unwelcome change. We have weathered conflict and sought healing. We are in the throws of a very uncertain time. The Stewardship Team recognizes this. At the same time, we are moving forward with our annual Stewardship campaign through grace and compassion.

The vibrant ministry of Lake Edge Lutheran Church is possible because of your generous donations! The Stewardship Team asks you to reflect on your giving to the church, and consider how you might increase that giving for 2021. Your volunteer time, gifts-in-kind, estate gifts, and weekly offerings are all greatly appreciated. Look for a mailing in early October with the 2021 Promise of Giving card, and plan to return your card through the mail by November 1st. Thank you for your continued support of your faith community!

Healing House

healing house

October 11-17

For those of you who are on team Healing House, we are not yet providing meals due to the virus.
We are partnering with Lake Edge UCC and one of their members has accepted donations and is doing the shopping for the house. Enough money has been donated at this time. Our next commitment is October 11-17. For the next time around we'll ask for meals to be cooked or frozen. More information will be shared as I receive it.

Chris Maloney:; 608-358-5248
Anita Grue:; 608-6980345

The Healing House is a place a homeless child or family member can go to heal after surgery. Lake Edge has partnered with UCC, (United Church of Christ) to provide meals to the families who are temporarily housed there due to surgery or childbirth. There are 63 medical respites in the United States; Healing House is the first in Wisconsin. Madison’s Healing House is at 303 Lathrop Street. It is an eight bed facility. They need our help with meals for the residents.

We need more help for this to be a continued success. Can you help one of the following days? Your time commitment is only 2 hours and many times it is shorter than that. October 8, 15 or 22. Call me please and indicate what day would work best for you. Chris Maloney 608-358-5248.

Safely discard unused or expired medication. Bring your unwanted prescription medications to Lake Edge UCC/Christ the Solid Rock Baptist Church on September 27 at 12:30 pm. 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, WI 53716.
