Crew Leader and Volunteer Trail Builder Trainings a huge success!

A total of 95 participants took part in the volunteer trail builder and crew leader trainings this past weekend. With 28 participating in the friday crew leader training and 67 in the saturday trail builder training the Friends rallied more than 900 hours of volunteer labor and despite challenging weather conditions managed the rough construction of a 1/2 mile section of new trail! Congratulations to our 15 new Crew Leaders that completed the 2-day Basic Crew Leader Training: Brian Crockett, Blake Griffin, Clint Griffin, Gene Griffin, Brad Gum, Jerry Harnack, Rich Moore, Brian Payne, Todd Rogers, Dave Sutphin, Klaine Tanner and Jeremy Stakeman. Governor Mike Pence visits with the Griffin Family before Saint Mary of the Woods luncheon begins on January 27th

Indiana Governor Mike Pence shares his enthusiasm about the Griffin Bike Park...

During his visit to Terre Haute Governor Mike Pence said to the crowd at the Chamber of Commerce lunch "I just have to tell you how excited I am that the Griffin family is here today and to know that the Griffin Bike Park is part of the Bicentennial Legacy Project and it is moving at an extraordinary pace!". He went on to speak about the priorities of his wife Karen and how she made him promise to track the Griffin family down and discuss their excitement about the Bike Park.

Indiana Office of Tourism and Development officially endorses Griffin Bike Park...

The following is an excerpt from Executive Director Mark Newman's official endorsement letter... "Indiana is home to many of the finest mountain biking trails east of the Mississippi River. The addition of the trail system at Griffin Park will enhance Indiana's already strong reputation as a mountain biking destination and strengthen the image of Vigo County, attracting many riders and outdoor enthusiasts from the Midwest and beyond. Final Master Planning Site Visit from Hilride Progression Development Group

Our bike park designer Nat Lopes from Hilride Progression Development Group came for a week-long visit from sunny California. Nat spent every day from sun-up to sun-down with members of Friends of Griffin Bike Park. The team was out on the property verifying existing trail alignments, flagging new trail sections and gathering GPS data to complete the master planning for the project. The visit also included a Crew Leader and Volunteer Builder Training, and a special presentation to members of the parks commission and other key local government supporters including: Kara Kish - VCPRD, Adam Grossman - VCPRD, Rick Burger - County Council, Kathy Miller - County Council, Mark Bird - County Council, Kylissa Miller - County Council, Judy Anderson - County Commissioner, Joe Newton - Park Board, Matt Schalburg - Park Board.

Terre Haute Tomorrow officially adopts the Griffin Bike Park project!

Executive Director, David Haynes of Terre Haute Tomorrow described why the Griffin Bike Park has been adopted as one of the three most important projects for the City and Community of Terre Haute. In his article for the Tribune Star titled "A Plan for Tomorrow" he said "Griffin Bike Park was not born of Terre Haute Tomorrow, but it has been adopted by us, as it enhances the quality of life, the image of our community, and supplements economic development as it makes our community a destination." Along with the Griffin Bike Park, Terre Haute Tomorrow has adopted the Riverscape and the Leadership Institute as the priority projects for the organization and it's goals. Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department officially designates land for the Griffin Bike Park

It doesn't get any more official than this: On Monday January 26th, the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Friends of Griffin Bike Park that "dedicates the land for the exclusive use of the Griffin Bike Park in perpetuity." Mountain biking has arrived in Vigo County and it is here to stay! Read the details in the Tribune Star article.

Indiana State University establishes senior capstone course to study long-term economic impacts of the Griffin Bike Park!

Dr. David Robinson, Associate professor of Management at ISU's Scott College of Business has established a senior capstone course to track and analyze the direct and indirect economic and social impacts of the Griffin Bike Park. The course will include the development of a methodology for tracking, reporting and analyzing daily, monthly and annual usage at the park and the direct and indirect economic impacts for the Terre Haute and Vigo County communities.
