Online Worship Through December 31

For the health and safety of our community of faith, we are offering online worship temporarily instead of gathering physically on Sunday mornings in the sanctuary. Based on your feedback in the survey we sent you in the summer, and the recent upswing in COVID-19 cases in Dane County, the Church Council has decided to continue online worship through December 31. The council will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate as is prudent.

Outdoor Worship Service October 25

While we’re waiting for the day that we can resume indoor services, you're invited to attend our second outdoor worship service in the church parking lot on Sunday, October 25 at 11:30. The service will be held--in your lawn chairs--in the north end of the parking lot, nearest the church doors. We also have room for five cars that could be parked close enough to hear the service with car windows rolled down. Pastor Martha, Patrick and Jay will lead the service from the sidewalk near the doors. The service will include communion.

To ensure your safety and comfort, we’ll limit attendance at the service so that households are spaced at least six feet apart and yet close enough to Pastor Martha, Patrick and Jay to hear the service as it’s broadcast through our new sound system.

If you’re interested in attending the service, please reserve your space by Friday, October 23 by contacting Judy St. Vincent at 608-838-1677 or wissaint@aol.com. If it rains at the time of the service, we’ll cancel it. (We all braved the drizzle at the September 27 outdoor service!)

We’ll follow the latest precautionary guidelines for everyone’s safety, so if you attend the outdoor service, we ask you to:

▪ Bring your own chair, wear a mask, use sanitizer and observe physical distancing
▪ Enter and park in the middle and south end of the parking lot
▪ Follow directions from greeters / ushers as they guide you to and from your space
▪ Refrain from singing and speaking as a congregation
▪ Refrain from entering the church building; it will be locked and restrooms will not be available

19th Sunday After Pentecost

The Gospel for this Sunday:

Matthew 22:1-14

Come to the Banquet

In Isaiah we are given a vision of the great feast to come, when God will wipe away death forever. In Jesus’ parable about a great banquet, those invited do not come, so the invitation is extended to others. In our liturgy God spreads a table before us. Even amid anxiety and hardship we rejoice in the peace of God which surpasses all understanding. With great joy we feast at the table of the Lord, and we go forth to share the wonderful invitation with others hungering and thirsting for the abundant life of God.

We've Come This Far By Faith: A focus for 2021

grapes-690230 1920

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops.
Proverbs 3:9

While I don’t know everyone’s story, I know enough of them to know that 2020 has been a pretty tough year for LELC folks, both collectively and individually. Collectively and individually we have known loss and unwelcome change. We have weathered conflict and sought healing. We are in the throws of a very uncertain time. The Stewardship Team recognizes this. At the same time, we are moving forward with our annual Stewardship campaign through grace and compassion.

The vibrant ministry of Lake Edge Lutheran Church is possible because of your generous donations! The Stewardship Team asks you to reflect on your giving to the church, and consider how you might increase that giving for 2021. Your volunteer time, gifts-in-kind, estate gifts, and weekly offerings are all greatly appreciated. Look for a mailing in early October with the 2021 Promise of Giving card, and plan to return your card through the mail by November 1st. Thank you for your continued support of your faith community!

Healing House

healing house

October 11-17

For those of you who are on team Healing House, we are not yet providing meals due to the virus.
We are partnering with Lake Edge UCC and one of their members has accepted donations and is doing the shopping for the house. Enough money has been donated at this time. Our next commitment is October 11-17. For the next time around we'll ask for meals to be cooked or frozen. More information will be shared as I receive it.

Chris Maloney: chrisvmaloney@yahoo.com; 608-358-5248
Anita Grue: anita51_98@yahoo.com; 608-6980345

The Healing House is a place a homeless child or family member can go to heal after surgery. Lake Edge has partnered with UCC, (United Church of Christ) to provide meals to the families who are temporarily housed there due to surgery or childbirth. There are 63 medical respites in the United States; Healing House is the first in Wisconsin. Madison’s Healing House is at 303 Lathrop Street. It is an eight bed facility. They need our help with meals for the residents.

Help Needed for Pop-Up Food Pantry

secondharvest

October Pop-Up Pantries

Our church’s association with Seeds of Peace have fed 200 families during the last 10 weeks of summer. So successful that Second Harvest has agreed to extend their services through the end of October. These recipient families are ecstatic tobe receiving fresh produce, dairy, canned goods and protein for their families.

We need more help for this to be a continued success. Can you help one of the following days? Your time commitment is only 2 hours and many times it is shorter than that. October 8, 15 or 22. Call me please and indicate what day would work best for you. Chris Maloney 608-358-5248.

Trunk 'n Treat October 24

ghost-with-a-bag-pv

Trunk ‘n Treat will be held on October 24th, in the parking lot. It is for families with children (they are the Treat-“beggars”) AND for all other members of Lake Edge (they bring the treats). Great fun is had by all. To sign up, please call or email Mary Graper (222-1081 or mags0519@hotmail.com). We’ll talk about Covid safety when you sign up. (Everyone will wear masks and keep safe distancing.) It IS possible to have fun and be safe, at the same time. Just come and see.

New Ping Pong Table

The new ping pong table is ready to use! One half can be folded up so one person can play/practice alone (be sure to lock it into position tho). With both halves folded up, locked and red straps buckled together, plus unlocking the wheels, the table can be wheeled out of the way.
