Aug. 19, 2014 - Milwaukee, WI - High school mountain biking has arrived in Wisconsin! More than 120 student-athletes from 20 teams, plus their coaches, team managers, parents and league officials, are focused on August 31, at Minooka Park, Waukesha, for the historic first race of the Wisconsin High School Cycling League.

The four-event Wisconsin League is part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), a self-funded non-profit youth development organization that governs high school mountain biking in the United States.

Don Edberg, the founder of WORS and co-director of the WI League, said, "We look forward to working with NICA to grow organized high school mountain bike racing in Wisconsin and to help spread it throughout the Midwest. This is a great opportunity for high school and middle school aged students since the WI League offers inclusive teams where nobody gets benched. Kids can engage in healthy lifelong activities, and have a lot of fun in the process."

With a strong team to handle event production, supportive sponsors, coaches, volunteers and enthusiastic parents, the first race at Minooka Park on Aug. 31 will herald in a new youth sport for Wisconsin.

“All of us at Trek are thrilled to have a NICA league in our home state of Wisconsin. This new league will provide middle and high school students in Wisconsin a great opportunity to get outdoors, be active, and fall in love with the sport of mountain biking like so many of us have,” said Brandon Buth, Trek Bicycle Advocacy Director.
