Online Worship Dates Revised

For the health and safety of our community of faith, we are offering online worship temporarily instead of gathering physically on Sunday mornings in the sanctuary. To understand your feelings about resuming in-person worship services, we sent you the "Resuming In-Person Worship" survey in June. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey. Based on your feedback in the survey and the recent upswing in COVID-19 cases in Dane County, the Church Council has decided to continue online worship through October 31. The council will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate as is prudent. Please watch for your August Dialogue to read more about what you told us in the worship survey.

9th Sunday After Pentecost

The Gospel for this Sunday:

Matthew 14:13-21

In this week's first reading God invites all who are hungry or thirsty to receive food and drink without cost. Jesus feeds the hungry multitude and reveals the abundance of God. At the eucharistic table we remember all who are hungry or poor in our world today. As we share the bread of life, we are sent forth to give ourselves away as bread for the hungry.

LELC Blood Drive Coordinator Needed

Blood Drop

Would you like to coordinate Red Cross Blood Drives at LELC? As a part of the Seeds of Peace group of area congregations, we have hosted a blood drive at LELC twice a year. The coordinator provides scheduling for blood donors including signup sheets and information on how to schedule online, recruits volunteers to help at the drive, finds people to provide treats to serve to those who donate and is in communication with the Red Cross.
If you are interested in coordinating our blood drives, please contact Chris in the church office at

Blood donors will receive a $5 Gift Card by email,
thanks to our partners at Amazon.

Needed: DVD Players

dvd players

Do you have a DVD Player in good working order just sitting around gathering dust?

Would you be willing to donate it? At LELC, we are working hard to connect as many people as possible to our recorded worship services. Some folks do not have online capabilities but would enjoy watching our worship services on DVD. A few folks don't have a DVD player.

We can use DVD Players that connect to a television set and DVD Players that are stand-alone with their own screen.

If you have one to donate, please contact Chris Anderson in the church office at 608-222-7339 ext. 22, or Thanks!!

Reduce COVID-19 Stress: The 4 M's

Practice the 4 M's every day to reduce the stress we feel because of COVID-19.
On the CBS Morning Show, Dr. Varma Shared the "For M's" of Mental Health. The basic points are below. You can find the video by clicking here.

1. Movement: 15 minutes of walking or moving around (preferably in the sun) helps with melatonin levels and therefore sleep quality
2. Meaningful Engagement: connect with people in anyway on any, email, letters, skype, zoom...
3. Mastery: do something that feels good to you and uses your creative energy
4. Mindfulness: deep breathing, relaxation, meditation

School Bags for Lutheran World Relief

schoolkit lwr

It is that time of year when your support is needed for filling school bags! If you are new to Lake Edge, this is an outreach project where you can help by filling school bags with specific items that go to children around the world so they are better able to participate in school. You purchase items from a list to fill the bags and then they get returned to church by the beginning of September. Box Car Loading Day is September 26 at the railroad yard where the bags are then shipped for distribution.
With church not currently open, the Peace and Justice Mission will drop one or more bags at your doorstep, or you may pick up from Joan Martin. There are 165 School Bags to be filled and the contents are the same as in previous years. The Contents you purchase and put in your School Bags are as follows: (To keep uniformity it is very important to not add any additional items.)

▪ 4 70-sheet notebooks of wide or college-ruled paper (8" x 10 1/2")
▪ 1 ruler (one side 30-centimeter or one side inches)
▪ 1 Pencil Sharpener
▪ 1 Blunt Scissor
▪ 1 Eraser
▪ 5 Unsharpened #2 Pencils with erasers
▪ 5 Ballpoint pens (blue or black ink-no gel ink)
▪ 1 Box of Crayons (16 or 24)

To receive your bags, let us know how many you want by doing one of the following: Email or text Deb Jenson at (920-296-1688);
Call Joan Martin (608-444-2982); Call Sharon Kreul (608-222-7115)

Let us know when it’s ready for pickup and we will make arrangements to get it from you, or stay tuned as we move forward with future decisions on reopening the church building.
Thank you so much for your generosity and compassion.

Healing House

healing house

The Healing House is a place a homeless child or family member can go to heal after surgery. Lake Edge has partnered with UCC, (United Church of Christ) to provide meals to the families who are temporarily housed there due to surgery or childbirth. There are 63 medical respites in the United States; Healing House is the first in Wisconsin. Madison’s Healing House is at 303 Lathrop Street. It is an eight bed facility. They need our help with meals for the residents.

Our dates are September 13-19. Our church will be responsible for a day or two, not the entire week. Anita and I are looking for individuals who have an interest in this volunteer opportunity. Even if you are vaguely interested please contact one of us so we can put you on a call back list for helping. Because of COVID it is not clear, right if we will be able to provide a hot meal or just the groceries.
