Become a Coach

Did you know that many NICA Coaches had little or no experience coaching before getting involved? Did you know that being a "coach" doesn't necessarily mean you must be at every practice and that even being available once or twice per month can be of HUGE benefit to a team, helping get #morekidsonbikes? Come be a coach! You don't need to be an expert rider or racer! You only need a passion for helping kids get stoked on riding bikes on the dirt!
Questions? Reach out to or your Team Director!

Register Today!

The Pit Zone is open for registration! NICA leagues use the NICA Pit Zone online registration system. This is a closed system meaning you must receive an email "invitation" to register.

If you are a COACH, you need to be invited by your Team Director or a league admin. Once invited, follow the link to log in or register, and complete the waiver and fee process. Clicking "License status" displays a chart of license requirements. Complete the annual requirements and upload as needed. For assistance at any time, please feel free to contact the league staff via

If you are a RETURNING rider on the same team as last year --- you can simply log in and register once your Team Director has registered the team. NEW riders can gain access to the pit zone by requesting an invitation from their Team Director or Head Coach, or emailing

Independent riders (who are riders with no team affiliated with their school and not part of a composite team) can send an email to asking for a registration link.

There have been a few updates to the Pit Zone including FAMILY REGISTRATION (which allows one adult --- who can also be a parent-coach --- to register all of their children/student-athletes under one email). In order to receive an invitation the pitzone requires The parent's first/last name and email addresss, plus the student (or students if you have multiple children joining) first and last names.

If you are a new or returning, please review the following brief videos on registration:
- Returning Riders Navigating the Pit Zone
- New Riders Navigating the Pit Zone

Riders who have been invited to register via the Pit Zone will receive an email with a link to log into the Pit Zone, confirm their registration information, and pay for the new season. There is a link to the Pit Zone along the top right side of the pull-down menus of the New Jersey League website at to return to the software in the future to register for races, add another child, etc.

ALL riders (regardless of if they are racing or not) must register in the Pit Zone and pay the $60 annual fee (for both high school and middle school riders). NICA uses an electronic waiver system for riders!!! This waiver covers all team, league, and NICA activities (team practices, races, clinics, and camps) for the whole season (October 2017 through June 2018) once completed! This will allow a rider to complete registration online with their parent/guardian in around 15 minutes.

League scholarships are available. Email for more information.

Once a rider has completed this process they will show up as “Practice Ready = YES” in the Pit Zone, meaning they are ready to practice and have completed all of their required paperwork and paid the registration fee.

Not sure which field/category to register for? If you are in MIDDLE SCHOOL(grades 6-8) you simply register "Middle School" and your grade. If you are in HIGH SCHOOL and this is your FIRST SEASON you register Freshman if you're in 9th grade, Sophomore if you're in 10th grade, and JV if you're in 11th/12th grade. The only exceptions to this are by approved petition. Petitions are voted on by the league staff and submitted by your Head Coach/team Director. For questions about petitions review the rule book and speak to your coach.

If you are a RETURNING HIGH SCHOOL RIDER please review the 2018 Category Placements located here. If you think there is an error or wish to submit a petition please speak to your coach and/or email with questions. All placements in the chart are per the 2018 rulebook.

For racing riders, pre-registration online for HIGH SCHOOL races cost $45 per race and MIDDLE SCHOOL races cost $35 per race. Riders may pay for any or all races when they initially log in and register but can also log in at any time, up to the Tuesday night before a race weekend, and pay for races. We will have ON SITE late registration FOR RACES (for Practice Ready riders) available this season for those who miss the Tuesday evening before race weekend cutoff. Late registration takes place the day of the race and incurs a $10 late fee.

If you are an INDEPENDENT RIDER (regardless of if you are practicing with a team or not) please send an email to asking to register independent.

Our League's 2018 race dates and locations are entered in the Pitzone software. We TRY not to change dates or locations during the season unless something happens that is beyond our control. That said, we are subject to inclement weather and/or permits like any other event organizer. Please review the Race Weather & Refund Policy to ensure you understand the procedure for race changes or cancellations. We try to publish flyers and maps at least two weeks prior to each event.

Please be sure to pay attention to your SPAM throughout the season. All emails from within the Pit Zone (invitations to register or updates) come from
If you have questions on which team to register for or if your team is registered email

If you are in the registration process and finding glitches email Julia Lawrence at Julia and her staff manage the Pit Zone system for the near 20,000 users nationwide!

Thank you for registering and being part of the New Jersey League. Please continue to spread the word about our organization and all of the amazing work we are doing across New Jersey and the nation! #njshredz #NJGirlsRock #morekidsonbikes
