CALL-UP PROCEDURE - FOCUS GROUP RESULTS

TWO RULE CHANGES FOR CALL-UPS

This off-season a group of parents, coaches, and student-athletes convened to discuss the call-up procedures used by the MN League. These rules or procedures had remained virtually unchanged, aside from adding call-ups for all student-athletes, since the MN League started in 2012.

When Ability Based Racing originally launched, the call-up procedure did not change with it. The call-up procedure continued to reward the top student-athletes that competed in all of the events - they were not called up by their performance alone. However, it became clear with time and experience that call-ups needed to be better aligned with Ability Based Racing.

The group worked for over two months to identify criteria for what makes a good call-up procedure and then reviewed numerous different solutions.

The outcome is a rule that attempts to have a call-up as close to a student’s finish position as possible and does not penalize a student’s call-up position if they miss a race, and provides a safety net if a student has a bad race.

Refer to the new call-up rules in the 2019 Rulebook

Review a summary of the rule changes.

▪ Rule 6.13 Call-Ups
▪ Rule 6.14 First Race Call-Ups
Rule 6.13 Call-Ups
Rule 6.14 First Race Call-Ups

Thank you to the call-up focus group for their hard work to outline a new call-up procedure for the MN League.
