Seeking Unity

In these days between Ascension and Pentecost, we gather with the disciples in the upper room, waiting for the Spirit to transform the church around the world. In this week's gospel Jesus prays for his followers and for their mission in his name. Amid religious, social, and economic divisions, we seek the unity that Jesus had with his Father. Made one in baptism, we go forth to live our faith in the world, eager for the unity that God intends for the whole human family.

Vacation Bible School Needs Your Help!

volunteer-2055043 960 720

Please Help!

Vacation Bible School is scheduled to begin in just over two weeks! Thank you for your generous financial support to make this program possible.

There are a number of adult volunteer roles that have yet to be filled. Unless we find people to fill all of these roles, we will have to cancel Vacation Bible School for this summer.

If you've been waiting to check your schedule before signing up to volunteer - now is the time to do it! If you've been on the fence about whether you want to spend a day with young children, remember, not all volunteer jobs involve sitting on the floor or chasing children around. Assistance is needed to prepare and serve lunch, to greet students in the morning, to supervise students for two hours in the afternoon, and to set up for the closing program on Thursday 6/15, among other things.

Thank you for considering the ways you might help out. If you have questions, or to volunteer, please contact Sherri Kehoe at kehoeds@gmail.com or 608-334-8660.

Bread for the World Offering of Letters

bread for the world

The Bread for the World offering of letters is happening now. Each year we hand write letters to our Congress people to urge them to pass legislation that will end world hunger and poverty. Encourage your congressional representatives to ensure funding for SNAP, WIC, and other programs that accomplish this goal. Look for a sample letter to be handed out in the near future as well as more information.

Vacation Bible School Giving Tree

VBS2017

We are blessed to be offering Vacation Bible School again this year, in partnership with Christ the Solid Rock Church! You are invited to help “sponsor” part of the program. Help fill our giving tree during the month of May!

Examples of sponsorship opportunities include:
* $10 will buy reusable water bottles for 10 kids;
* $15 will purchase a VBS theme t-shirt for a child;
* $20 will support a counselor’s meals for a day;
* $100 will provide a day of lunches & snacks for the kids;
* Any amount can be given to furnish art and craft supplies.

In fact, no amount is too small or too large; any gift is appreciated! The above are just suggested options. Your gifts can be given the next four Sundays. Look for the giving tree in the narthex! Any gifts given in excess of expenses for 2017, will be carried forward to help support VBS in 2018, when we are expected to receive less funding from the church. And, if you cannot contribute monetarily, we would welcome your time and talents, as we are still in need
of volunteers!

Facebook Event Feature

One of the cool features about Facebook is the ability to create "Events" to announce activities and opportunities at LELC. Members of Facebook can "Share" Facebook events with others to help spread the word. Church staff members create our Facebook events and postings. If you think an upcoming event would benefit from being posted on Facebook, please contact the church office.

Gifts Committee: Matching Gifts Needed

gift hands

At the recent congregational meeting, two special initiatives were approved to be funded through the gifts committee:
1) part time youth pastor for the next year
2) repair of the front rock wall and improving drainage near the front door to prevent water from reaching our elevator shaft and basement hallway.

The Gifts Committee will match donations to these projects. Please check the bulletin and June Dialogue for details about how you can contribute to these important initiatives.

As always, thank you for your support of these types of special initiatives through the gifts committee. Jim St. Vincent, Chairperson, Gifts Committee
