Do Not Be Afraid

Elijah finds the presence of God not in earthquake, wind, or fire, but in the sound of sheer silence. When the disciples face a great storm on the sea, they cry out with fear. Jesus says: “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” Amid the storms of life, we gather to seek the calm presence of Christ that soothes our fears. In comforting words of scripture and in the refreshing bread and cup of the Eucharist, God grants us peace and sends us forth to be a sign of God’s presence to others.

This will be a time to join our voices with others in our communities to protect and advocate on behalf of refugees and learn what we can do to fight for and support the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.
Following the webinar we are asking that you unite together with others in your community and meet with legislators, call elected leaders, and vocalize our support for the United States’ continued leadership in protecting refugees and those in need of protection during the week of August 28th through September 1st. Put the date and time on your calendar and we will share more information and details on how to participate in the webinar in the coming weeks!

Kitchen & Gas Stoves

Please, Do Not Turn Off the Gas!

Recently, we discovered that someone had turned off the gas to the stoves in the church kitchen. This creates a very dangerous situation, as all pilot lights must be re-lit manually. Our greatest concern is that one pilot light might be overlooked (it is easy to forget the oven has a pilot light, too). If one pilot is left unlit, the gas may ignite causing a fire and possibly an explosion. So please, do not turn off the gas to the stoves unless it is some kind of emergency.

The pilot lights also help to dry the cast iron on the stove. Because the gas was turned off, moisture on the stove has caused the cast iron to rust and it must be cleaned.

Good Working Order

Finally, our kitchen gets a fair amount of use, and so the stoves and other appliances and equipment need to remain in good working order. If you use the kitchen, please make every effort to leave the kitchen clean and ready for the next time it is used.
Thank You!

The Gifts Committee will match donations to these projects. Please check the bulletin and June Dialogue for details about how you can contribute to these important initiatives.

"Spend a weekend in nature exploring this divinely sanctioned space. Together we will explore and experience the gift of Sabbath, the joy of being without expectation. While there will be many opportunities for multi-generational learning and doing, nothing is required. You are free to spend yours days engaged in arts and crafts, biblical study, nature exploration, swimming, hiking, fishing, or simply lying in the sun, listening to the birds sing and the children laugh. This weekend is your Sabbath - it has been established so that you might experience rest and joy!”

See you at church!
