Knitting is love

For bookclub this month, I'm reading Unforgettable, Scott Simon's story of his mother, a former showgirl and all around bonne vivante, as she succumbed to cancer at 84. Simon opens by saying that death is the reason for life. It's why we do what we do. Death is why societies construct monuments and make art. It's why couples have children, and it's why we struggle to build something that will endure after we are gone. It's because our time on earth is finite that we feel compelled to create.

At some level, I guess it's why many of us knit. Unlike so much of what we do, knitting is proof of our time spent. It's a tangible representation of continue reading

Beginner Mittens

Beginner Mitten Class this Saturday

Mittens are a terrific little project - small, portable, and full of learning opportunities. This particular pattern is really a gauntlet with a flared cuff that transitions into ribbing around the wrist. That cuff is not only attractive but functional. The flare helps block cold air from going up your coat sleeve, so you stay nice and toasty.

This is a fun class - two sessions, and you can easily finish the pair in that time. This class is a great introduction continue reading

August First Friday project

Caesious Curl KAL kickoff

We still have Hunter Hammersen's Trunk Show featuring projects from all four of her books - Curiosity Cabinet I, II, and II, and her latest book Curls. We're especially excited about Curls, a collection of shawls with an innovative shape that's fun to knit and easy to wear.

It's not too late to get started on our August First Friday knit along -- the Caesious Curl in Breathless DK from Shalimar. Breathless DK combines cashmere, silk, and merino into an elegant yarn with a beautiful hand. Your Caesious will be a treat to knit and an luxurious accessory to enjoy.

Beautiful New Shawl Pins and Sticks

When we were at TNNA, Ginni and Mary and I found this beautiful new line of shawl pins and stick pins. We brought a few back with us, and they were gone within a week. Fortunately, we had worked with the artist and scheduled a trunk show to coincide with our Curls Trunk Show, As I said above, it really is a match made in heaven.

These pins feature colorful inlays of polymer clay in white bronze and lead free pewter settings. Some of the polymer based pins encase metal armatures in their structures. Everything is crafted in the USA, of nickel silver made exclusively for Bonnie's designs.

Betcha can't pick just one!

Beautiful Colinette Giotto

arrived recently - such happiness! Shimmery cotton ribbon hand-dyed as only Colinette can. Oh my goodness. We'd barely gotten it into baskets when Mary showed up with this cute cowl. A perfect summer thing - beautiful colors, mindless stitching, and fun fringe to really show off the yarn. Of course you can leave the fringe off you prefer a sleeker look.

Come choose your color and get started on a quick summer fling - just one skein!
