Crazy for Ewe this week

2016-08-20 15.49.47

We've been having quite a few knitalongs in the shop lately. Balmy has been so much fun, and I can't wait to start Jessamyn this Saturday! I love knitalongs because it's fun to knit the same thing as others and kind of share the experience. I also like that they're so flexible and fun. Come when you can and be part of something fabulous. While we tend to think of knitalongs as in-shop events, they actually started on the internet. Here's a little background.

Knitting seems to enjoy cyclical popularity. It was at a high in the late '70s and into the '80s, which is when I learned. Patterns were fairly faithful to the current styles. Dreadful styles, but sadly, that's what we wore. I actually continue reading

Spectrum Scarf

Spectrum

September First Friday is this week, and it's all about Shibui! Our project is the beautiful Spectrum Scarf worked in alternating sections of Rain and Silk Cloud for a gorgeous texture and a distinctly modern look. The combination of these fibers gives you crisp stitch definition and silky softness.

Spectrum is the perfect pop of color for your fall wardrobe. You'll enjoy knitting it as much as you will wearing it. An easy pattern and a perfect mindful project to help you relax and remember why you love to knit.

Bring size 8 needles. The pattern is free with the purchase of the yarn. Want to order the kit? Shipping is free through September - use code SPECTRUMFF

Shibui Trunk Show

In addition to Spectrum, First Friday is also the opening of the new Shibui Trunk Show. This collection features transitional garments that you can knit now and wear all year round.

Mark your calendars! August 30 -- September 13

This gorgeous cardigan was my favorite from the Ginkgo trunk show last month, Worked in elegant Berroco Ginkgo, Jessamyn is exactly what you want to take you gracefully into the fall season, Worked in one piece with only two small seams at the shoulder, Jessamyn is as fun to knit as it is to wear.

The fabric is nice and squishy and really highlights Ginkgo's beautiful texture. It looks like ribbing, but there's no purling. In fact, you can knit the entire body of Jessamyn with no purling at all! Sounds like magic, but, I promise it's super easy.

I've been champing at the bit to start this project, and I thought I'd invite you to knit along with me. Several of you have even bought the yarn already! We'll meet in the shop to work on it, but I'm also going to blog about it regularly so that folks who are not local can be part of the fun. I'll send out the blog posts at least weekly, and occasionally more often if I find out something important. If you're interested, click on the link below, and I'll include you in all the posts and plans and fun!

This vest is adorable, and the fabric is probably one of the most beautiful crocheted stitches you've ever seen.

Antonella will be teaching this project on three Sundays - September 11th, September 18th, and October 2nd from 1-3 pm.

This is an intermediate crochet class - you should be comfortable with crochet basics. If you need to get up to speed, contact the shop, and we'll get you hooked up (pardon the pun) with the skills you need to successfully work this gorgeous garment.

If you're knitting the Noro Mirai Crescent Shawl with Lisa M. Barnes and our own Mary, they're meeting this Wednesday. If you've finished your shawl and find that you have a good bit of yarn left over, be sure to check Lisa's blog because she has a special design just for her KAL group.

Lisa and I have had so much fun working together on this project. I've invited Lisa to come teach a special weekend of workshops in January. Keep your eye out for that event, and sign up right away because space is limited, and you don't want to miss out.
