PIF2020-Sponsors FINAL JPG

We tried something new this year by moving our annual golf fundraiser to Top Golf. We appreciate everyone that signed up to golf, purchased raffle tickets, bid on auction items, donated items and made donations.

A very special thank you to our wonderful Play it Forward sponsors for their kindness and generosity which will help us to continue to facilitate activities and events for survivors of brain injury and their families.

In addition to those above, we would also like to thank the following:

Bennett Property Management
Richard & Jackie Almeda
Simon Consulting, LLC
Top Golf - Brandi Russell

A huge shout out to the Play it Forward Committee Chairs - Lauren Bostick and Justin Larson, both Directors on the WMF Board. They did a great job! And to the entire WMF Board for their time and dedication.

By popular demand, we will be back at a golf course next year! Please watch for a future announcement and save the date.

ACTIVITIES & EVENTS UPDATE

All activities and events through April have been cancelled in accordance with the Executive Order by Governor Ducey. We will continue to follow orders and guidelines as they are made.

In the meantime, we encourage you to still register for future activities and events, as they all have limited space.

NOTE: At this time – nearly all of the activities are free to survivors and immediate family members. If we have to cancel anything due to COVID-19, a full refund will be given to those that paid a registration fee.

In order for WMF Participants (Survivors and Family Members) to stay socially connected during these unprecedented times, we have “re-activated” the WMF Private Group Facebook Page – now called WMF Social Connections. Participants can post photos, encouraging words, ask questions, comment and participate in contests.

If you are a WMF Survivor or Family Participant in Arizona, please contact us at info@wmforward.org to be added to the group.

We encourage everyone to follow orders and guidelines to keep yourself and others safe and we look forward to seeing you in person as soon as we are able.

As of today we have not cancelled or made any plans to change the date of our Annual Up North Adventure. We will continue to follow the orders and guidelines as they are revised and if necessary we will cancel or postpone to a different date.

For those of you that have reserved a room at the Lodge, our initial registration did say that refunds would not be given. However, if we need to cancel, we will do so within the first week of May to assure our refund, and in turn – you would receive a refund as well.

If we have to cancel our date in June, and there are dates available in the fall that would still allow us to attend this year, we will contact each of you to see if you are still interested and make a determination.

For those of you volunteering for our day at Willow Springs Lake on Saturday 6/13/20, we would appreciate it if you would keep our event on your schedule for now.

SM-SocialBowl

YES! We are already looking for sponsors, bowling fundraisers and items for our silent auction for our Annual Social Bowl.

We would like all of our bowling fundraisers signed up ASAP, as we will be setting up the fundraising pages for everyone this year to make things quick and easy.

Once your page is set up, you are free to start fundraising any time you would like, but no later than a month prior to the event. As always, we encourage all of our bowling participants to try their best to raise a minimum of $100.

If you are unable to attend this year - please consider sponsoring a Survivor to participate for only $35.

Everyone attending that is not a bowling/fundraising participant will be need to pay General Admission. $5 online or $15 the day of the event.

biaaz bucket

The Brain Injury Alliance of Arizona's 'Fill Your Bucket' is a two-part virtual series for the loved ones of people who misuse substances. This can be a difficult and worrisome position to be in on a normal day. With the arrival of COVID-19, and the shelter-in-place recommendations in many areas, both the substance user and their families can encounter new and stressful challenges. This series encourages those who may find themselves in a caregiver role to practice self-care, and to "fill your own bucket first".

While every caregiver is welcome to join and will likely glean something from our sessions, these are designed to be particularly helpful to anyone experiencing the challenges of isolation and addiction. An estimated 70% of hospitalized patients that have a head injury are discharged with an opioid prescription and challenges can arise. This is not an uncommon topic in the brain injury community and you are not alone.

Please register for each session separately and next week you will be sent a link to join the session via Zoom. You do not need to have a Zoom account to join, but you do need to register for each virtual event. The sessions will consist of a twenty minute talk and then open dialogue. Please be sure to share with any family members you know who could use the strength, guidance, and permission to "slow down... and fill your own bucket first".
