Hello ,
Greetings from Spain
Where I just returned for short break after time in Slovakia working with the team launching our new distribution warehouse there.
Last week I was telling you about a road trip to Poland.. You can read about it here.
I was hoping to give you some good news on the Rodrigo situation (if you have been following the story), but sadly it seems he is still in exile, the situation goes from farcical to unbelievable.
Week before last we heard from the Visa centre in the UK a decision had been made on the 22nd August and he would receive his passport back within 10 days. Since the 10 days were already up, it seemed that any moment he would get his passport and be reunited with his wife and family back in Sheffield. Party organised, flights booked, much rejoicing and tears. But the passport did not arrive. Now the Visa centre say they have sent it to the Madrid office to send on to Rodrigo, but the Madrid office they say they have not received it.. almost a month later.
Is this a last ditch ploy to destroy a family? they have tried everything else. Really it makes me ashamed to be British, is this how we treat good people?
On a brighter note, it's all go at AW HQ.. the team there have been working magic and making all the stock arriving fit into our warehouses and make all your orders flow outwards. We are still behind, although I understand the situation is much improved by the start of two shifts a day.. honestly.. we really are working ALL hours to get your orders out.
In Slovakia, in the town of Trnava home of AW Gifts Europe.. Check it out here: www.awgifts.eu things are coming together nicely. The Indonesia container came, without too much trouble, and the second China one is due. More and more customers are registering and the place is starting to buzz as the first orders arrive. If you are EU based I would invite you to register, you will be a founding member and in years to come treated with the greatest reverence and respect :) But still a way to go, later we will have German, Polish and Hungarian language sites. Right now we are looking for a German speaker to join the team in Slovakia.. a more lovely place to work you wouldn't find. Please direct anyone to us you may know.
Last weekend was the Trnava town feria, much like they have in Spanish towns, but with a distinctly Slovakian flavour. Lots of traditions for this special weekend. Young wine, at 1 euro a glass.. this wine looks like white lemonade and tastes a bit like it too, but's potent stuff.. and on sale on every bar and street corner. Huge meals of roasted pork with mountains of cabbage.. and cabbage soup, and cabbage and side orders of cabbage. I never eaten so much sauerkraut cabbage in my life. It's good for you they say, especially washed down with lashings of young wine.. The town was basically turned into one huge outdoor market, interspersed with fairground rides, and an open air concert, with some rocking bands. I was delighted to see a huge range of genuine craft market stalls selling everything from personally iced gingerbread hearts to wooden bow ties - €20 each.. wooden bow ties are a thing, I'm sure (you read it here first).
Also we were delighted to attend the Christening of Lily Rose, daughter of Dusan (the Bath Bomb Wizard at AW and Brother of Tomas Lord of Marketing) and Lucy (Customer Service Angel at AW). In a grand Gothic church in the old town, it was quite an experience.
Afterwards a lovely meal with lots of cabbage.. and lots of smiles from Lily Rose.
Lucy will be back from Maternity leave shortly to help with the Christmas rush. She is working late shifts to make it all happen all hours.
So Christmas really is coming. It's all go.
Thank you so much for supporting AW and doing business with us. We appreciate it.
Hope things are going well, and you are along for the ride.
Lots of deals below.
Take care.
David
