Welcome!

From Principal Mest

Dear Northside Parents and Mustangs,

Welcome back to all of our students and families, and a special welcome to our Class of 2019! I look forward to the start of school on Tuesday, and having the building full of all of the people that make Northside the special place that it is.

Over the last few weeks, our faculty, staff, and parent volunteers have been working hard to ensure the start of a great year. As we make final preparations for the first day of school, I ask that you review the following information:

First Day of School
School begins at 8:00AM and ends at 3:15PM. We will be running a modified schedule on Tuesday, September 8, so all students should report to their advisory by 8:00AM.

Programming
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked through complications with programming this year. Our counselors and our programmer have been working very hard to resolve any outstanding issues with schedules. Student schedules and class sizes will continue to be adjusted over the weekend and each student will receive an updated schedule during advisory on Tuesday morning.

New to Northside
In preparation for the new school year, I am excited to announce several new faculty members who bring with them passion for teaching and learning, expertise in their content areas, and a love for our students.

Alice Costas, Visual Arts - Ms. Costas is not quite new to Northside. She is a NCP alum and also taught at Northside last year while Ms. Caplice was on leave. Ms. Costas completed her undergraduate work at Brown University and earned her M.A. at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Gabriela Escobar, Mathematics - Ms. Escobar completed her B.A. in Mathematics at Northwestern University and recently earned her M.Ed from Northwestern University.

Matthew Madia, Physical Education - Mr. Madia joins our PE department from Niles West High School. He completed undergraduate work at Northeastern University and recently earned a master’s degree from Robert Morris University.

Mark Thompson , Mathematics - Mr. Thompson joins our Math department from the Skokie School District. He holds a B.S. in Engineering from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and earned a M.Ed at DePaul University.

Please join me in giving them a warm Northside welcome.

Finally, I want to give a special thank you to all of our amazing parent volunteers who helped with Freshman Parent Night and orientation. The time and talents that you give to our school community are greatly appreciated.

From students, to faculty and staff, administration, and parents, it is people that makes Northside a truly wonderful and unique place.
Have a great Labor Day weekend and I look forward to the start of another amazing year of learning and growth for the Northside community.

Go Mustangs!
Kelly Mest, Principal

Get Involved!

Many parents are active in a combination of the organizations listed below. We encourage families to volunteer at least 10 hours throughout the year.

Monthly meeting dates are posted on the home page of the school website under Upcoming Events.

All are welcome. Please join us!

Friends of NS logo

Friends of Northside & Parent Network

Friends of Northside & Parent Network (FON/PN) is the "one stop shop" for Northside parents to get involved in helping to benefit our entire NCP community.

We work hard to enhance communication between parents, teachers, students and administration. We organize parent volunteers in support of our school, we plan and sponsor social and educational events and we help to raise funds that are needed to bridge the gap created by CPS budget cuts.

We welcome and need parents to help out during their four short years at Northside. Visit our Friends of Northside webpage HERE.

The First Meetings of FON & PN are Thursday, September 24th at 6:30 for PN & 7:30 for FON.

Parent Network logo

Parent Network also meets on the First Friday morning of every month for coffee and conversation. This relaxed meeting is an opportunity to meet and network with other parents. We welcome your participation!

Our first First Friday is September 11, 8:00am - 10:00am at Panera Bread, 6059 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60659

LSC logo

Local School Council (LSC)

The Local School Council (LSC) is the voice in the continuing evolution of Northside. They garner the ideas, opinions, and recommendations that affect our Northside community. The LSC is responsible for approving the Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP), principal selection and evaluation, and allocating discretionary funds to school programs.

The next LSC meeting is Wednesday, September 16 at 6:30 pm.

Student Directory

Please Update Your Information

Each year we ask Friends of Northside & Parent Network to create a Student Directory for the purpose of facilitating parent communication, community and volunteerism. If you've not been in the directory or are new to Northside please read on.

Directory information includes only student name, student and parent/guardian address, parent/guardian telephone number, parent/guardian e-mail address, and student grade level. Directories are distributed only to Northside families.

FON/PN urges all families to go online to fill out the Student Directory Form and to use the Northside Opt Out Form if you do not wish to be included. Opt Out forms should be filled out and turned in to the school office.
