Welcome!
From Principal Mest
Dear Northside Parents and Mustangs,
Welcome back to all of our students and families, and a special welcome to our Class of 2019! I look forward to the start of school on Tuesday, and having the building full of all of the people that make Northside the special place that it is.
Over the last few weeks, our faculty, staff, and parent volunteers have been working hard to ensure the start of a great year. As we make final preparations for the first day of school, I ask that you review the following information:
First Day of School
School begins at 8:00AM and ends at 3:15PM. We will be running a modified schedule on Tuesday, September 8, so all students should report to their advisory by 8:00AM.
Programming
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked through complications with programming this year. Our counselors and our programmer have been working very hard to resolve any outstanding issues with schedules. Student schedules and class sizes will continue to be adjusted over the weekend and each student will receive an updated schedule during advisory on Tuesday morning.
New to Northside
In preparation for the new school year, I am excited to announce several new faculty members who bring with them passion for teaching and learning, expertise in their content areas, and a love for our students.
Alice Costas, Visual Arts - Ms. Costas is not quite new to Northside. She is a NCP alum and also taught at Northside last year while Ms. Caplice was on leave. Ms. Costas completed her undergraduate work at Brown University and earned her M.A. at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Gabriela Escobar, Mathematics - Ms. Escobar completed her B.A. in Mathematics at Northwestern University and recently earned her M.Ed from Northwestern University.
Matthew Madia, Physical Education - Mr. Madia joins our PE department from Niles West High School. He completed undergraduate work at Northeastern University and recently earned a master’s degree from Robert Morris University.
Mark Thompson , Mathematics - Mr. Thompson joins our Math department from the Skokie School District. He holds a B.S. in Engineering from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and earned a M.Ed at DePaul University.
Please join me in giving them a warm Northside welcome.
Finally, I want to give a special thank you to all of our amazing parent volunteers who helped with Freshman Parent Night and orientation. The time and talents that you give to our school community are greatly appreciated.
From students, to faculty and staff, administration, and parents, it is people that makes Northside a truly wonderful and unique place.
Have a great Labor Day weekend and I look forward to the start of another amazing year of learning and growth for the Northside community.
Go Mustangs!
