Hello there!

Did you know it's easy to add fine motor to more areas than just the writing center? This is one of my biggest loves, in case you didn't already know. I talk a lot about fine motor because it's important to get those hands and fingers stronger before you place a writing tool in them.

There are some very obvious fine motor activities, such as using scissors, and some that might not see as obvious, like using the core for riding on a scooter board.

Some of our favorite ways to add fine motor in different areas of our environment:

Water Table (or bathtub, for those of you at home): Use basters to squeeze water.

Science Table: Add tweezers to pull seeds off plants.

Light Table: Transport bottle caps and place them into small containers.

Nature Area: Hammer tees into pumpkins during the fall.

Block Area: Get your Lego Duplo bricks out for these fun fine motor activities!

Art Table: Use pipettes to make colored waterfalls.

Cooking Activities: Mash, pour and stir while making chocolate chip banana muffins.

Literacy: Pour rice and letter beads into a bottle to make a name discovery bottle.

Sensory Bin:Transport foam letters and place them in containers.
