My Favorite Invention in the Quilting Universe and Over 25 ways to Use Them

Greetings Quilty Friends!

Thanks so much for stopping by! If you would prefer to open the newsletter in your browser click here.

Any guesses of what is my favorite invention of the quilting universe in the past 20 years?

I know it's pretty gutsy to make a statement that bold, but I think that my favorite is the creation of precut and pre-coordinated fabric squares.

The original precuts were "Charm Packs" (aka 5" Stackers). They are a collection of pre-cut 5" x 5" squares.

These handy packages of pre-cut fabric are great time savers. And there are SO many great projects designed with them in mind.

I've updated my list of lots of project inspiration for using these handy squares + a little bit of background of how they got their name.

This week Riley Blake Designs released Block #8 of the 2021 Quilt Block Challenge.

I think it would be fun to make a whole quilt using these butterfly blocks designed by Elea Lutz.

Click below to download the free pattern for this week's block as well as links to download all of the blocks. It's never too late to join in!

You can also see all 8 of the blocks I've made so far. It's fun to start getting some of the big picture!

Have you ever tried Foundation Paper Piecing? Leila Gardunia is a great teacher and created this scrappy carrot pattern to teach you how.

It's perfect little mini quilt project for spring and a great way to use up scraps!

Also fun on the web this week:

Debby Brown (quilting whiz, encourager and all around delightful person) is hosting a year-long Color Blocks Scrap Quilt Along. Dig into your scraps, start piecing these no-stress 16-patch blocks, download a new scrap quilt pattern each month, and learn how to machine quilt it all on your home sewing machine! This FREE class also offers weekly bonus content such as extra patterns and video interviews with industry professionals like ME!

Debby and I just recorded an interview, so if you enroll in her Color Blocks Scrap Quilt Along you can watch it - and tons of other free content!

It was kind of a long tedious week around here. We had some much-needed rainy days, so I'm not complaining. But I will admit I was a little excited when temperatures dropped just enough that there would be snow in the mountains one morning so that I could have one last "snow-hike" for the season.

It did my soul so much good to get out and enjoy that seasonal scene one more time. And the smell - it was amazing!! (I wish the photo captured that too.)

One thing I learned however - don't wear your favorite robin's egg blue gloves on a spring hike. My shoes are built for mud, but pretty gloves, not so much. :) Pro-tip for you.

Hope you all have a great week and I'll see you next Saturday!

xo,
Amy

PS (Quilting is my Therapy sticker available here.)
