Dear ,
Many of you know that I will be moving my tiny house and tiny office to my property in Oakhurst near Yosemite. You can read more about it HERE.
In preparation for the move, a property survey was completed to show the existing trees and structures like the cabin. The survey will help me create a master plan for the property. As you know I've been dreaming of a Tiny House Community for years and years. Well, I'm super excited that my ideas are (finally) moving forward!
This project brings me so much HOPE and JOY in the midst of this crazy time. It makes me feel like, perhaps I/we can provide a vision for a better world.
Collaboration with Kathy Nolan & Environmental Stewardship
From the beginning, I wanted to be a steward of the precious land on the property and incorporate permaculture principles. So I'm thrilled to collaborate with Kathy Nolan from Studio Landscape, a well respected landscape architect in Ojai. She helped me focus on stacking functions with edible gardens, bioswales, rain gardens, and greywater systems. There will be chicken coops, composting, a barn for building stuff, central gathering spaces, prefab tiny houses, and a treehouse (fingers crossed)!
I'm looking to form a Community Land Trust agreement to manifest this vision. If this interests you, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I'm inviting people who may be interested in participating or investing as part-owner of the property.
Tiny House Community as a demonstration project
What you may not know about Kathy Nolan is she's also a Planning Commissioner in the City of Ojai. She's a strong advocate for the environment and works tirelessly to fight for a sustainable planet. For years, Kathy has been pushing the envelope to modify local municipal code to allow for tiny houses and other environmental initiatives. WATCH THIS VIDEO from 4 years ago when we were trying to legalize tiny houses in Ojai.
During a zoom call last week, Kathy and I discussed possibilities of a demonstration project (perhaps in Ojai?!). One of my goals is to create a template for other cities to follow. Maybe partner with "sister communities" with a similar vision towards sustainability and affordable housing, to share resources and expand our network.
So many of us are feeling terrified, helpless, angry… a planetary and humanitarian crises are at hand. How can we provide a vision that is more equitable and just? How can we overhaul entire systems that are obviously broken?
Onward and upwards,
