Fast & Easy FQ Bag + a 12(!) Year Project

Greetings Quilty Friends!

Hi everyone!

If you prefer to read in your browser, click here.

I hope you had a Happy holiday weekend if you're here in the US. We're enjoying (not really) a dry heat wave in our neck of the woods. It definitely feels like summer.

A few quick things to share with you this week:

I find that Summer doesn't tend to leave a lot of time for sewing, but sometimes you still get an itch to get the satisfaction of a finished project.

Or maybe you have a ton of Fat Quarters that you no longer need but want to put them to good use.

Well this week I've got the perfect project to satisfy both needs: a tutorial for a quick and easy lined bag, made from Fat Quarters. It's perfect for making gift bags, charitable donations, or teaching someone to sew.

Quilts of Valor (QOV) is a nation-wide organization created to “cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts.”

Since lots of Red, White, and Blue patriotic fabrics go on sale this time of year, it's a great opportunity to grab a few to donate or use to make a quilt to give to a service member.

And did you know QOV also takes block donations? This year they're collecting simple nine-patch blocks in red, white, and blue. It's a great way to contribute, if you don't have time to make a whole quilt.

Click the post below for more information on quilt and/or 2021 block donation requirements, patriotic quilt ideas, and ways to find your local QOV chapter.

Finds on the web: More Quilts of Valor Ideas

Amanda of Material Girl Quilts just released a brand new quilt tutorial + video for this super cute disappearing four-patch baby quilt. And of course I extra love that she used Notting Hill fabric!

If you are sewing for Quilts of Valor See Kate Sew has a fun and easy quilt idea as well as a free printable card to include with your presentation. Or perfect to present on it's own to any military member.

All People Quilt has a cute free pattern for a star-spangled Watermelon table runner. Perfect decor for the whole summer season.

This week I've been pulling out the "slow-summer-sewing" projects - aka handwork I can take with me on the go while we visit with family, sit by a lake, or ride in the car.

And ready to make an appearance again for the 12th (!) consecutive year: my hand-applique orange peel blocks (last mentioned here).

I'm as amazed as anyone that I'm still in love with these blocks. And I know I've said this many a summer before, but this IS the year I swear that I am going to sew them together into a quilt top. AND write tutorial of how I make them.

You can hold me to that. (Actually, somebody please hold me to that.)

Hope you have a great week. As always, thanks so much for checking in.

xo,

Amy
