TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM
PG | 2023
1 HR 39 MINS

Director: Jeff Rowe
Voices of: Jackie Chan, Ayo Edebiri, Seth Rogen, John Cena

Animated/Adventure/Comedy

After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

The filmmakers are able to make this world action-packed, exciting, abnormal, and humorous in equal measure, and by focusing on making these TEENAGE Mutant Ninja Turtles into authentic youths, Mutant Mayhem takes characters we’ve seen over and over again and makes them fresh once more.
Ross Bonamie, Collider

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is not only a great introduction to the iconic franchise, but a fantastic film in its own right, and one of the best-looking movies of the year.
Rafael Motamayor, SlashFilm

In this movie’s wise deconstruction of its characters, Mutant Mayhem does the seemingly impossible and makes the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cool again.

OPPENHEIMER
R | 2023
3 HRS

Director: Christopher Nolan
Stars: Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh

Biography/Drama

During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world's first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history.

Christopher Nolan’s three-hour historical biopic is a gorgeously photographed, brilliantly acted, masterfully edited and thoroughly engrossing epic that instantly takes its place among the finest films of this decade — an old-fashioned yet cutting-edge work that should resonate with film scholars and popcorn-toting mainstream movie lovers for years and decades to come.
Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times

Not just the definitive account of the man behind the atom bomb, Oppenheimer is a monumental achievement in grown-up filmmaking. For years, Nolan has been perfecting the art of the serious blockbuster – crafting smart, finely-tuned multiplex epics that demand attention; that can’t be watched anywhere other than in a cinema, uninterrupted, without distractions. But this, somehow, feels bigger.
Paul Bradshaw, NME

Director Christopher Nolan’s seismic Oppenheimer is that rarest of things: a sophisticated and bracing movie that’s made for adults and makes nobody say, “I’ll wait till it’s on streaming.”
Johnny Oleksinski, New York Post

Tara’s Pick!

Friday 8/18 @10pm!

PROMARE
PG-13 ‧ 2019
Action/Sci-fi ‧ 1h 51m

Thirty years has passed since the appearance of Burnish, a race of flame-wielding mutant beings, who destroyed half of the world with fire. When a new group of aggressive mutants appears, a battle begins.

Tara’s Take:

“The bright cyberpunk visuals make Promare worth seeing on the big screen. Everything is over-the-top, in a good way. Between the robot battles, dramatic characters, cheesy humor, wild worldbuilding, and – did I mention the stunning art? – you aren't going to fall asleep.
The fact that my pick is the second-to-last in the lineup means that I've had even more time to grow obsessed with this movie. So obsessed that I've been inspired by Promare's vibrant art…be one of the first to give the code phrase “I’m the world’s number one firefighting idiot” for a special vibrant prize on Friday night! _
Honestly, the best way to watch this movie is to inhabit the mindset of the main character, Galo: Don't think too hard and let your firefighter soul be set aflame.”_
