Dear Parent/Guardian,
Texas law requires school districts to measure children in grades 3-12 in a PE class with the FITNESSGRAM. The FITNESSGRAM measures your child's aerobic capacity, muscular strength & endurance, and flexibility. Additionally, your child's body composition is measured by the Body Mass Index (BMI), which is determined from your child's height and weight. Below are the descriptions of the health-related fitness areas and how each assessment is measured and identified.
Aerobic Capacity/PACER measures the ability of the heart, lungs, and muscles to perform continuous physical activity. This test consists of the PACER test.
Muscle Strength & Endurance and Flexibility are components of health-related fitness that measure the overall fitness of the body. These tests will consist of push-ups, curl-ups, trunk lift, and back saver sit and reach.
Body Composition / Body Mass Index (BMI) - This test will consist of measuring height and weight.
Testing dates will be from October 4th - Nov. 1st. Fitnessgram scores are NOT used for a grade for students. Scores are kept confidential. You are able to view your child’s information via the AISD parent cloud after November.
Thank you,
The Physical Education Department
