Applications Open for Prep 2025

The Department of Education has made changes to the enrolment process for prep 2025. If you have a child starting prep next year or know someone in our community whose child is starting prep in 2025, please read this very important information:

The statewide timeline for enrolling in Foundation (Prep) for the 2025 school year has been released. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government school. The timeline seeks to make the enrolment process simpler, clearer and fairer for families. The timeline applies to children starting Foundation (Prep) in 2025. All government primary schools, including P-9 and P-12 schools, will follow the timeline.

If you are seeking to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) for the 2025 school year, you should read about enrolling in a school and contact a primary school directly.
Steps to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) for the 2025 school year
To start primary school in 2025, your child will need to turn 5 years old by 30 April 2025. Schooling is compulsory for children who have turned 6 years old.
If your child is starting Foundation (Prep) in 2025, you will be able to apply to enrol your child in a Victorian government primary school from the start of Term 2, 2024 (Monday 15 April 2024).

What you need to do:
1. Use Find my School to locate your designated neighbourhood school (referred to as your local school) and other nearby government schools.
2. Contact a government primary school to book a school tour or to learn more about the school and the enrolment application process.
3. Download the Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents and Carers. This pack includes an application form. The school may also provide you with a copy of the form to complete.
4. Submit an enrolment application for Foundation (Prep) by Friday 26 July 2024.
5. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 29 July and Friday 9 August 2024. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should accept the offer by Friday 23 August 2024.
6. Take part in information and transition sessions during Term 4, 2024.
7. Your child will start Foundation (Prep) from Wednesday 29 January 2025.

Enrolment applications submitted after 26 July 2024 will be processed by the school as they are received, in accordance with the Department of Education's Placement Policy.

All families must submit an application form for their child by 26th July. If you do not submit your application form, then you may miss out on an enrollment place for prep 2025. The application process allows us to plan the prep grades for 2025 as well as if we accept enrolments from out of the zone.

An application form has been attached for families to fill in and return.

Attendance

If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by logging onto Compass and entering your child/ren attendance note, or you can also contact the office on 9589 5620.
Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
All Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained.
This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.
The Malvern Valley Primary School Attendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences is available on our school website: https://mvps.vic.edu.au

Families that have outstanding attendance notes will get reminders from Compass when they log in, please send the attendance note through or email the office.

This is a legal requirement. If parents do not provide reasons for child absence then they will receive a letter in the coming weeks asking for an explanation as to why their child was absent.

Friends of Malvern Valley

Friends of Malvern Valley (FOMV) is an initiative run by the MVPS Parents Association and is offered to all members of the MVPS community. The program is in place to assist families who may need some extra support from time to time. Should anyone require some additional support such as meals, second-hand uniforms, or assistance with pick ups/drop offs then you are able to make confidential requests by emailing MVPS Principal Amy Tinetti or emailing FOMV directly at fomv@outlook.com.au

FOMV is also seeking new helpers to join the database. If you have the capacity to be on the FOMV database, please email fomv@outlook.com.au and specify the types of assistance you can provide.

Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme

MVPS is now registered to receive donations through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme. Together we can make a positive difference to our environment and our school community. We encourage all MVPS Families to return eligible bottles/cans to the Oakleigh Return It Depot (Oxford St, Oakleigh). Once your donations have been fed through the machine click on ENTER SCHEME ID and scan our school barcode (attached), and your donation will be made to the school. Keep your receipt and give it to your teacher when we return to school and the winning class at the end of each term will receive a class prize! To check eligibility of containers just look for the 10c mark or visit cdsvic.org.au
