OK, I hope the title of this email didn’t scare you, but it’s a valid question when it comes to setting up your Etsy shop and in particular your About Page. Did you know that Etsy recently made a change to their internal search engine to take into account whether or not a shop has an about page? It’s true!

The internal Etsy search (called Etsy Relevancy) now rates shops with a completed About Page higher than those who don’t have one set up. This is an easy step you can take in improving your shop’s placement in searches and also helps give your shop a professional and put together look.

Besides being important for search engines, your About Page is now being featured on your Etsy store front. Make sure to fill out all of the information on your About Page AND fill in 5 photos. These photos can be of your workspace, a project in-flight or some new supplies you’ve recently purchased. Showcase a finished product, your table at a craft fair… anything interesting that will catch a shopper’s eye and cause them to spend more time on your page scrolling through your photos.

So the answer to the question “who cares about you” – the answer is your shoppers AND the internal Etsy search engine. And both of those are pretty important.

I hope this quick tip inspired you to go to your Etsy shop and make sure all sections of your About Page are filled in. Having a complete About Page just might give you a leg up in searches and get you that extra sale! Keep a look out for our next email about quick things you can do to improve your Etsy shop’s SEO.
