The Best Wine

The Sundays after Epiphany continue to celebrate the revelation of the glory of God to us as it was made known to the magi and to those on Jordan’s banks at the baptism of Jesus—today using wedding imagery. Our God rejoices over God’s people “as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride.” By the power of the Spirit there are gifts galore for everyone. In Christ Jesus the best wine is saved for last. Taste and see.

Rides to Worship

At Lake Edge, we are working with Madison Metro to provide Para-transit service to transport seniors to and from worship on Sundays. This service will be provided by LELC at no cost. Pick up an application for your self, or for someone you know who would benefit from this program. Applications are available under the Jumbotron or click here. The application process includes an in-person needs assessment which we will arrange to have scheduled at Lake Edge Lutheran. Return applications to D'neece Hettrick, Jan Johnson or the church office by as soon as possible.

LELC Collecting Blankets & Bedding Now!

St. Vincent de Paul provides hundreds of needy people in Madison and surrounding communities with good-quality recycled and new bedding. LELC is one of dozens of area churches that participate in this drive. All the bedding we collect or purchase during this drive will be given away during the next 12 months to needy individuals and families who come to the Center for Vincentian Charity (2033 Fish Hatchery Rd, Madison) seeking assistance from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Shopko is a huge sponsor of this drive. Shopko offers blankets at a good price. Please bring your donations of new or gently used blankets and bedding during the month of January to church. There is a RECYCLE THE WARMTH barrel next to the nursery door. Contributions from LELC will go to St. Vincent’s the last weekend in January. Questions: 608-358-5248

Adult Education January 13 & 20

January 20
One year to the day before his assassination, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached a sermon denouncing the Vietnamese war, especially its disproportionate effects on young black men. Even many of his liberal allies turned against him after this sermon, now referred to as "The Vietnam War Speech." If you’ve never heard it, or you’ve heard it many times, this compelling message is full of contemporary relevance. Join us to listen to it together and discuss at the January 20th adult education time.

Scholarship Funds Will Be Sent in January
Funds Will Be Sent to Cristo Rey in January
Lake Edge has had a relationship with Cristo Rey in Santa Ana, El Salvador for 25 plus years. Several years ago we asked Pastor Carlos how we could help them. He said the best thing we could do was to provide an education for the children. Education is not mandatory and requires that the student wear a uniform and have their own school supplies. The cost to send a child to school is about $100.00 which is about a month’s income for a family. Every fall Lake Edge members provide scholarship funds, which are wired to Cristo Rey in January before the start of their school year. We have been able to support around 150 children each year. Some of the children have actually been able to pursue educational opportunities after high school. If you wish to participate in this program, please identify your donation as Cristo Rey Scholarship. There will be cards in the fellowship area if you wish to donate in someone’s name as an alternative holiday gift.
