Worry

WORRY. Such a short, simple word and yet, one that is all too familiar to most of us The student worries about the upcoming math test. The employee worries about his upcoming evaluation with his boss. The Sunday Scripture reader worries about fumbling over words or getting lost in the reading. And then there are some who worry about a medical test result. In truth...worry is as part of life for many as is breathing itself.

But what does God's Word tell us. In Matthew 6, Jesus clearly says that we are not to worry. Simply look at the birds in the air on the grasses in the field and notice how God takes care of each. Jesus speaks the same to us. In fact, he concludes this section with this statement in verse 34: “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself.”

So, from this teaching of Christ from the Gospel, let me suggest the following lessons:
Don't beat yourself up if you do worry. Worry comes easier to some and for these folks, they often feel they are less spiritual or weaker in faith. This really isn't true. Some who naturally worry, even though they try very hard not to and fail, are often very strong and loving followers of Christ. So...don't beat yourself up if you worry...just try to let more of it go. That is part of growing.
Worry does nothing. My son is a champion at this and I admire his ability to not sweat stuff. He often says, “It will be what it will be.” Pretty good point. The truth of his statement echoes that of Christ when he says that worry accomplishes nothing other than to perhaps send us to our knees in earnest prayer...or the hospital with a heart attack.
Know that God is in control. Either we believe that or we don't.

“I am inwardly fashioned for faith, not for fear. Fear is not my native land; faith is. I am so made that worry and anxiety are sand in the machinery of life; faith is the oil. I live better by faith and confidence than by fear, doubt and anxiety. In anxiety and worry, my being is gasping for breath--these are not my native air. But in faith and confidence, I breathe freely--these are my native air. A John Hopkins University doctor says, "We do not know why it is that worriers die sooner than the non- worriers, but that is a fact." But I, who am simple of mind, think I know; We are inwardly constructed in nerve and tissue, brain cell and soul, for faith and not for fear. God made us that way. To live by worry is to live against reality.”

Dr. E. Stanley Jones, Transformed by Thorns, p. 95.

May God bless you as you try each new day to better live without worry and anxiety.

Blessings,
Pastor Keith

FROM OUR MISSIONARIES…

By: Mary Woods
Mark & Roxanne Johnson Indiana Univ. CRU
Kyla, Eden
Our summer assignment is a much needed Sabbatical, which is 30 days. We are excited to take time to refresh and take time to focus on our Lord and meet others. We have set up a schedule that will refresh both of us. I have been pursueing my Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. I have enjoyed the classes throughout the year, and will finish a semester worth of content in 1 wk. with test. A lot of work but I have learned a lot. Kyla is 3 1/2 and Eden is 18 mos. old. We are thankful for all you do for us. Many Blessings.

Mark and Natasha Palmer Central Asia CRU
Emily, Jessica, Elizabeth
Long time since we wrote and much has happened. God did much and we are thankful to see how He continues to bring people into His family. I've worked with a group of guys, all different, talented and special. I see many making poor choices, but God is gracious and merciful. This year over 1,000 students heard the Gospel and 59 made decisions for Christ. Our girls finished another academic year successfully and Natasha had some opportunities to witness to Moms she meets. Please pray for our family and our future. Pray for wisdom for our 3 girls' future. Also pray for new Staff and some will be raising support. We are blessed to know that our God is the author and protector of our Faith, His will be done in His timing. We thank you for your love and support.

ROAD TRIP…

So much information about the many inspiring programs at Samaritan’s Purse was presented to the 16 Young at Heart members who traveled to Boone on July 13. From the International Crisis Relief delivering food, water, medical care, and other life-saving relief to the U.S. Disaster Relief with their nationwide network of Christian Volunteers who work tirelessly to clear debris and make emergency repairs, all done in the name and love of Jesus. Physical as well as spiritual needs are dealt with by Samaritan’s Purse as the survivors are helped to deal with unspeakable grief and loss.
Not only is Samaritan’s Purse ministering to needs during time of crisis, but there are ongoing programs dealing with feeding, medical issues, construction, water, sanitation and hygiene, women’s programs, children’s programs, animals, agriculture, operation heal our patriots, discipleship, education, training, and, most familiar to St. Paul’s, Operation Christmas Child or Shoeboxes.
Please pray for this organization as they try to be a good Samaritans as presented to us in God’s Gospel of Luke.
