Greetings Friends and Family,

NJICL's third season is almost here! On behalf of our Board of Directors and Management Committee, welcome. We have been super busy during the off-season preparing for what promises to be our best season yet.

Please continue reading below to learn about some significant changes we have made to our fee structure. Although the fee has increased for non-race participation, we are happy to report that costs for many families has been reduced. Taking advantage of the season pass, which is available until March 1st, 2019, is the best way to save.

The season pass appears as "Race #1" in the PitZone. It covers registration for every race of the year (dates listed below) for students who opt in to this plan. The Utah League had 90% of their students opt in for a similar plan this year, so we hope everyone will take advantage of the cost savings and one-stop shop.

Teams may begin pre-season activities on October 15th, and regular practices commence on December first. Regular practices continue straight through June. Be on the lookout for communication from your Team Directors and Head Coaches on team activities.

Keep an eye on our website and media outlets for a fresh list of "Dirt Tour" and "Try it Out" dates for October and November. If you are interested in starting a new team in your school or town, it is NOT too late!

Speaking of schools, have you heard that we have our first public school system coming online this year? Welcome to the league Clearview Regional School! Additionally, our very own Don Bosco MTB Team has been designated as an official school sport. Congrats Ironmen! These are two tremendously significant milestones in our state. We look forward to welcoming more schools as we continue to grow and offer the best youth development program in NJ!

As always, if you have comments or concerns, please feel free to drop me a line. Thank you for being a part of this amazing community!

Best wishes,

Ken Seebeck
League Director

NJICL Season Three is Almost Here!

Our PitZone software is currently open for registrations for student, coaches and teams. All students and coaches on your rosters from last year will receive an invitation to register today.

2019 Season Fee Adjustments

The NJICL Leadership, in consultation with a number of Head Coaches, completed a review of our student-athlete fee structure, and has made some fundamental changes effective with the 2018-19 season. The season fees will increase, while race fees are lower, reflecting the NJICL focus on the student-athlete experience beyond racing. Under this revised fee structure our racers and non-racers alike are still getting one of the best youth-sport bargains in New Jersey, and we create a more equitable distribution of fees among our student-athletes.

Also, we are excited to introduce a season pass for racing, which gets you all five races for the price of four, if you pre-commit and pay up front; we expect the season pass to be on sale through March 1st, 2019. Following that deadline, registration will only be available on a per-race basis, just as it has in seasons past.

We are aware of the financial burden which youth sports can have on a family and do not want finances to be a barrier to joining our community. We will continue offering scholarships thanks to our amazing sponsors and individual donors. Our scholarship process is simple and confidential, please contact League Director Ken Seebeck for more information.

Adventure Programming

We introduced some non-competitive activities at the summit this year, and plan to offer some non-competitive events for our students who choose not to race. Look for announcements as we draw closer to the race season.

GRiT Program

Expect increased frequencies of GRiT rides. We are serious about getting #moregirlsonbikes and our GRiT Coordinator Kathi Krause has a lot in store for the coming season.

Teen Trail Corps

The TTC program is about to launch nationally, and we are working with our partners in trails to identify a league-based TTC champion. Are you interested in trail maintenance and advocacy? Already a NICA coach and/or JORBA volunteer? Want to combine the two? Hit us up, we have a position opening for you!

We just completed our third summit in New Jersey, and what a tremendously successful weekend it was! 70 individual coaches and trainers came together over a two day period to talk NICA, learn the "NICA way" and share a healthy dose of New Jersey NICA stoke.

Thanks to our amazing coach supporter staff and the summit planning committee, we were able to provide a three-track training curriculum, maximizing opportunities for new and returning coaches alike. By all accounts this was one of the most robust summits in our organization's history.

Special thanks go out to the following folks, without whom the summit would not be possible:

▪ The entire NJICL Core Staff and Advisory Board, for their guidance and oversight
▪ The Summit Planning Committee: Fred Brown, Robin Dunn, David Kahl, Tom Kruse, Larry Towner, Ben Tufford, Kevin Watkinson. Total professionals!
▪ Mary Beth Van Wart - League Volunteer Coordinator and logistics genius. No one works harder or makes a better bean salad!
▪ The Collier School: Sister Deborah Drago, Pablo Samuel, Michael Krause. How amazing is the Collier School staff and MTB Team? Thank you for having us.
▪ Coach Supporters and skills instructors: Ben, Fred, Kathi, Larry and Robin with special guest Skip Millard from the Cognition Staff.
▪ Our League and National Sponsors. Thank you for believing in what we do.
