Bike Month is coming!!! This is your chance to be active, commute happier, and save money. Alamo Commutes would like to encourage both new and veteran riders to hop on their bike and explore the places around them. Bike Month isn’t about riding the furthest, fastest or most often, it’s about riding when you can, encouraging others and spreading the joys of biking.

There are many Bikes Month events on the community calendar open to the whole family.

EPA announced that Bexar County will be moved from Marginal to Moderate Nonattainment for ozone

Currently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies Bexar County as being in "Marginal" nonattainment for Ozone, according the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).

Being in nonattainment means that Bexar County is in exceedance of the Ozone (O3) criteria pollutant standard which means that the concentration of Ozone at ground level in Bexar County is too high.

This Marginal nonattainment status meant that Bexar County had until September 24, 2021, for Ozone measurements to fall below the threshold allowed by the 2015 NAAQS levels for Ozone. Since the levels still exceeded acceptable levels as of that date, EPA is now recommending the Bexar County nonattainment area be reclassified as a “Moderate” nonattainment area for Ozone. This new designation will mean that Bexar County businesses and residents will be required to comply with new EPA air quality regulations.

EPA is currently accepting formal comments on their proposed action through the Federal Register website. The comment period will be open through June 13, 2022 and EPA will be holding a virtual hearing on May 9, 2022. The reclassification is expected to be finalized in late 2022.

As of April 19, 2022, VIA Metropolitan Transit made mask wearing optional for customers and employees, following a court order that lifted a federal mask mandate, previously in place for all public transportation vehicles and facilities.

Ridership on VIA continues to increase as people return to work and travel to entertainment and social events.

While masks are no longer a requirement, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend masks to protect against the spread of the COVID virus, particularly in areas where social distancing is not possible. Customers and employees are encouraged to make decisions that are in their best interests.

For the continued health and safety of the community, persons who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone who is positive for the virus should not take public transit. Please visit COVID-19 page for the latest information.
