Director's Note

We are getting geared up to provide an exceptional experience that allows all youth to shine! Whether a first-time student-athlete, an adventurous family pumped to travel the region or a seasoned competitor, the community warmly welcomes your participation.

We are heartened by the many people and organizations who invest their resources and time to keep the wheels in motion. Fort Lewis College has stepped up as a Platinum sponsor.

Every year we are honored to create an environment to host a tribe of fun-seekers where they may test their personal limits, encourage one another, develop lasting bonds, create magical memories, and celebrate the joy of playing in the dirt.

Thanks for staying informed on the many happenings this season.

Happy trails,

Kate Rau, Executive Director
and
John "Hutch" Hutchinson

Scholarship Opportunities

There are many scholarships available to support teams, coaches, and riders.

The 2nd Chance Fund funded by Mountain Island Construction assists with CPR, First Aid, and Wilderness First Aid. The importance of knowing CPR cannot be overstated. Rainer Barth, Boulder High alum, delivered CPR for more than 20 minutes to a person who was drowning as they traveled in the back of a pickup to the hospital in Costa Rica. Because of Rainer's training the person survived. Recently, a couple was hiking and one was struck by lightning. The other knew CPR and saved their boyfriend's life. See more the news report HERE.

Alpine Bank is offering 3 travel scholarships for State Championships in Durango. Team Evergreen Cycling, Yeti Cycles, and Mountain Island Construction are the three primary supporters of the Colorado League Scholarship Fund for teams, coaches, and riders. Please note the various deadlines for all scholarships.

Please understand that funds are limited, and we make every effort to meet each applicant’s needs.

Race Conduct

Race weekends are full of action! To optimize the fun there are a few protocols to support safety and camaraderie.

Start Chute
You cannot win a race in the first 250 feet yet you could lose one. Riders can pass immedaitely after the exit the start chute and cross over the race timing mat. This is designated by the large Colorado League windblades.

Feed Zone
This is a busy and important place. Feeders need to have a Feed Zone badge. This simple process will allow Coaches to support their riders:

▪ RED LINE: All feeders must remain behind the RED line when not feeding their team riders.
▪ YELLOW: All feeders must remain behind the YELLOW line when riders are within 100 yards of the Feed Zone.
▪ GREEN: All feeders must approach the GREEN line when feeding riders.
RED LINE: All feeders must remain behind the RED line when not feeding their team riders.
YELLOW: All feeders must remain behind the YELLOW line when riders are within 100 yards of the Feed Zone.
GREEN: All feeders must approach the GREEN line when feeding riders.

Be sure to stand still when passing fuel to racers. Running along side of them is dangerous for your and others. It helps to have a team spotter to look for incoming riders and call out names so the feeder is ready.

Pass With Class, Be Passed with Class
This is a Colorado mantra says it all. Communicate that you are going to pass. The passing rider is responsible for announcing in advance and is the one who needs to make the move. The passed rider can hold their line and does not need to move. No intentional contact is allowed from any riders.

Positive Sporting Behavior
Everyone has different goals and motivations for being part of the weekend event. Some are their to hang out with friends and family, others are working on their fitness, many have individual goals, and others are striving for a top 20 finish. No matter what the reason for riding is, be kind and humble.
