Hi, poet, and welcome to our March email!

Though it's only the end of February, there's already a feel of coming spring in the air... and in our goings-on. This month we continue with back-to-back Poetry Happy Hour and open mic night at Zata, and we buckle down for some hardcore form in our 3rd Monday workshop. Read on for more below!

Thanks to all who came out and made last month's Poetry Happy Hour a blast-- especially our February showcase poet, Molly Todd. Stay tuned for details on our March feature! With an inspiring feature reading, open mic, and cash bar all evening long, there's no reason to miss out on the fun. Hope to see you there!

Freewrite Tuesdays at Sub Rosa

Sub Rosa Bakery, 620 N. 25th St., RVA 23223
1st & 3rd Tuesdays, 10:30-11:30am-ish

Freewrites continue! Whatever you're working on these days, set aside some dedicated time for your writing... with us s at Sub Rosa on March 7th and/or 21st.

This is a welcoming and informal venue to write and feed off the creative energy around us and in each other-- we believe great work doesn't always have to be done at a lonely desk or secluded retreat. Although we're open to specialized topics and sharing, there is no formal critique or workshop agenda, and no RSVP required— simply show up ready to write!

Monday Night Sessions

Thanks to all who came out and got their rhyme on with us for our February workshop! We're kicking it up a notch in March and turning our attention to the ghazal (starting with how to pronounce "ghazal"; hint: it may not sound how you think it sounds).

For 3rd Monday workshops (held at Rocketts Landing), please check Facebook for topics by month and any pre-assignments. Critiques are held on 2nd and 4th Mondays in Shockoe Slip; bring 6-9 copies to share around the table.

March dates:

Monday, March 13, 6:30-8pm– Small group critique, Urban Farmhouse Shockoe, 1217 E. Cary St. RVA 23219

Monday, March 20, 6:00-8:00pm– Third Monday Workshop: Adventures in Form: The Ghazal, Urban Farmhouse, Rocketts Landing, 4821 Old Main St., RVA 23231

Monday, March 27, 6:30-8pm– Small group critique, Urban Farmhouse Shockoe, 1217 E. Cary St. RVA 23219

Both critique nights and workshops are always open to all writing experience levels (unless otherwise noted) and completely free of charge. If you're inspired by what you learn on Monday nights, we encourage you to make a totally OPTIONAL secure online donation to support our events. 100% of funds (minus a small PayPal fee) go directly to the instructor and the furthering of these sessions. Thanks for all your amazing support so far!

That's it for now! As spring deepens, though, keep an eye out for the return of Tea for Two, our reading series in conjunction with Richmond Public Library, as well as a re-branded Poetry in Abandoned Spaces and the much-missed C'est Le Vin. It is almost National Poetry Month, after all. Keep that muse close to hand!

Yours in poetry,
Joanna
