You're an interesting woman...

Hi there,

I love Peruvian Connection, a catalog of beautiful art knits inspired by a variety of global textiles. The garments are usually hand knit by local artisans who earn a fair trade wage for their work. Stranded, intarsia, and jacquard knits in bold colors and gorgeous graphics, they are not inexpensive, nor would you expect them to be. They’re art, after all, and worth every penny.

Their most recent email had the subject line “You’re an interesting woman…do you dress like one?” They went on to entice me with a stunning collection of statement pieces with a chic modern aesthetic that takes traditional techniques to a new level. Take a look at their stuff, and you’ll see what I mean. But it was that subject line that really stuck in my head -- “You’re an interesting continue

Come by the shop and pick up your yarn, or order it on line through the link below.

The shawl takes 2 skeins, and you can order the pattern through Ravelry here, or we can get it for you in the shop. more

Triton Knitalong

Triton - a modern pullover

Triton-- a gorgeous design with exactly what I like in a sweater - clean lines, elegant detailing, and a modern look. What else would you expect from Shellie Anderson, the creative force behind most of my favorite patterns from Shibui Knits. Shellie now designs under her own label, Shel Designs, bringing an aesthetic that manages to feel both timeless and contemporary.

Triton is worked in a yarn that's bulky but light, very much like Air from WoolAddicts. I am going to suggest either Air, or its sister, Earth more

The last painting of sara de vos

The Last Painting of Sara de Vos

Our selection for this March is The Last Painting of Sara de Vos, by Sarah Crichton.

In 1631, Sara de Vos is admitted as a master painter to the Guild of St. Luke's in Holland, the first woman to be so recognized. Three hundred years later, only one work attributed to de Vos is known to remain - a haunting winter scene, At the Edge of a Wood, which hangs over the bed of a wealthy descendant of the original owner. An Australian grad student, Ellie Shipley, struggling to stay afloat in New York, agrees to paint a forgery of the landscape, a decision that will haunt her. Because now, half a century later, she's curating an exhibit of female Dutch painters, and both versions threaten to arrive.

You don't have to be a "member" to attend, just read the book and join us to discuss it. The last Wednesday of the month.

map and ship

You still have a chance to join me on a fabulous Viking River Cruise through the Bordeaux region of France - home of legendary castles, chateaux, and wine. I'm not big cruise ship kinda girl, but this is a small, luxury ship built for the Gironde, a very small waterway where the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers meet. I've always wanted to do a trip like this -- it's going to be amazing! We'll have beautiful sights, delicious food, and legendary wine. If you are thinking of signing up, there is still space.
