CG NEWS & EVENTS

Hunger in Our Community

Sunday is the last day to donate!
In 2018, the Food Bank distributed over 10 million pounds of food, including over 3 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. Currently, member agencies handle nearly 13,000 requests for food assistance per week.

Now through Sunday, donate right here at Common Ground! Drop off monetary donations and
non-perishable food items on our Food & Funds Drive table. Now's the time to check your pockets and cupboards or head out to the store to see what you could purchase to help! Thank you to all who have already donated!
Every donation helps folks right here in our valley!

Playing "The Game"

Youth Group

Last Sunday we talked about belief and dove into the reactions people had in Jesus' hometown when he returned there to preach.
We also explored our thoughts about the ideal characteristics of a friend, worked on a craft to donate to Whispering Pines, and played The Game. Hope to see everyone this week at our normal time. Snack: Audrey & Nathan

Last Sunday

Thank you to Reverend Randy Brown, The Restored Quartet, and everyone who came out to Worship with us last week! We had an amazing, inspiring service and a wonderful time of fellowship. It was a definite joy to visit with old friends and make some new ones. Seeing the littlest church-goers clap and tap along to the music was also a treat!

April Adventures

We started off this week with a field trip to the home of Ralph and Doris Witmer (Ellen Bowman's dad and mom), where we had an awesome time. Thank you to the Witmers for their gracious hospitality and to Ralph for teaching us about purple martins. We are so lucky to live in a community where people are so willing to share their time and knowledge!

Now that spring has really sprung, our clients and classrooms are enjoying outside tasks. We worked on flower beds and raised beds with Leetonia on Tuesday, PLUS we created a delicious baked potato bar lunch with Mrs. Weaver. Wednesday brought Don Fisher to share some of his repair skill knowledge with us in the front greenhouse. Thanks, Mr. Fisher! When our Mohawk friends arrived, we worked in the warehouse and cleaned up one of our hillsides. We are doing more work in the warehouse with Salem today. We will wrap up our week tomorrow with Crestview, as we work on a gourd project. It has been a jam-packed week!

Next week will start with our bi-weekly trip to volunteer at Whispering Pines. We can't wait!

CSA Time!

Spots are starting to fill up fast! Pick up will be Thursdays, weekly or bi-weekly, over a period of 18 weeks. We will provide a variety of produce from early June to mid-October. Pay by April 30th to get the EARLY BIRD Price of $325, which equals $18.05 per week. After April 30th, the cost is $360 for a weekly share, which equals $20 per week. Or, do a bi-weekly share from mid-June to mid-October for $200, which equals $22.22 per week. Refer a friend who purchases a subscription, get $20 back! Limited number of shares, deadline May 27th.

What is the benefit of a CSA? You know where your money is going. You know your farmers. You get local produce, harvested fresh on the day of pick-up. Additionally, your subscription supports our work here in North Lima and benefits local families, as we aim to donate at least 10% of our harvest to area food banks.

GG Restaurant Fundraisers

If you want to Dine for a Cause again, head to Chipotle in Boardman (near Target) on Sunday, April 28 from
4-8pm. Chipotle does not require printed flyers. You can show it on your smartphone, inform them you are supporting Goodness Grows, or you can grab a flyer (or several) from our GG table and share them with your friends. Eating dinner out is an easy way to help Goodness Grows earn money for our programs!

OUTREACH and MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Coat & Clothing Drive

Ongoing Outreach/Mission Opportunity
Drop items off in the collection barrel or take them up to the Green Room, anytime throughout the year! Let your friends and family know that we accept donations year-round. We are happy to take coats, clothes, shoes, purses and bags, jewelry, hats, gloves and mittens, scarves, and even small household items. Anything that is clean and in good repair that you think someone else might be able to use!

Food & Funds Drive ~ Through April 7th

Why support Second Harvest & our Food & Funds Drive?
The Food Bank solicits, stores, and distributes food to hunger-relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties; and provides education and advocacy. They believe that no one should go hungry, and are dedicated to building a community that makes food accessible to all people.

The Food Bank is a storehouse for large quantities of donated food and USDA commodities that are distributed to hunger-relief organizations located throughout our tri-county service area. These member agencies include church pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs.

As you can see - your donations will have an impact!

~~

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.

Matthew 25: 35-36, 40

What can YOU do?
