As the weekend approaches I wanted to relate one quick story.
A client called with a dilemma, his Disability carrier had sent him a check for over $10,000 for surgery and recovery.
The carrier based the payment on what his Dr. had written regarding the date of his injury back in June.
I asked what the issue was as the insurance company seemed to have paid him for the 11 weeks the Dr. indicated he was out.
That is when he told me he hasn't even had the surgery yet and only expects to be out for 2 or 3 weeks in total yet they paid him for the entire summer!
As far as the insurance company was concerned the case was closed and no one was the wiser but clearly it was an error on the Dr.'s part and the money though appreciated was not rightfully his.
After some discussion he decided to call the carrier.
They are reissuing a much smaller check based on his actual claim and he gets to sleep better at night knowing he did the right thing!
Honesty (and integrity) is always the best policy!
