WFHS PTSA Newsletter Header 7-26-21

Welcome to the 2022-23 School Year!!!

Classes begin Monday, August 29th, and we are so excited to kick off another fantastic year! This PTSA newsletter will be coming to you at the beginning of each month, filled to the brim with information to help you navigate the busy world of WFHS!

We love help! "Many hands make light work", remember?! You can join the PTSA in seconds by simply clicking HERE and selecting your membership preference. You are welcome to pay only the $5 Membership Fee (select the staff, student, or friends & family option, as applicable), OR you can be extra helpful and choose the $20 WFHS PTSA Single Membership + Donation option, which automatically includes a $15 donation to go along with your $5 membership! Regardless of your choice, we'd love to have your input at our PTSA meetings the second Monday of each month at 6:00pm (our next meeting is one week from today--Monday, August 8th!). You can decide from there if, how, and in what area(s) you want to be involved. Stay tuned to our social media pages (see links below) for meeting locations, and/or email us at ptsa.wfhs@gmail.com if you would like more info.

One thing we'd REALLY appreciate from everyone reading this...please take 30-60 seconds to complete the Cougar Connections form. This form allows you to tell us what you do (or don't!) want to receive from us. Whether you want every bit of info you can get, just the bare minimum, or something inbetween, this quick little checklist lets us send you what you want, and ONLY what you want! There are two other tasks this form takes off your to-do list: you can give us your Harris Teeter and Lowes Rewards Card numbers so we can register FOR you, and if you want info about serving in a particular area of the PTSA, you can save yourself an email by checking off the boxes that apply to your area(s) of interest. Easy-peasy, DONE!! THANK YOU!!

Be sure to check out the bottom of the newsletter for links to the various social media pages and websites--such as the grade-specific Facebook pages--where you will find the up-to-the-minute information most pertinent to your family.

Speaking of links to important sites...check out our BRAND NEW WEBSITE!!!! We're still making tweaks and adding content, so please bear with us as this process continues, but we think the new PTSA website is much cleaner and easier to maneuver, and we hope you will find it a tremendous improvement!

It's Time for Cougar Camp!

Cougar Camp is for ALL students who are new to WFHS, both freshman and upperclassman alike! This introduction to all things WFHS is a super-helpful way to kick off your child's Cougar years! Students will receive their schedules, find their classrooms and other important locations, and meet some new friends! Parents, there's an info session for YOU as well! This year's Cougar Camp is on Thursday, August 11th. You can register and learn more on the PTSA website, or on the WFHS website.

For students new to WFHS, there is also a New Student Walk-Through scheduled for August 25th from 10:00am-11:00am. Please contact the school for more detail, or keep an eye on the WFHS website!

We need your help to support WFHS!

There are many ways you can help support WFHS without even leaving your couch! Here are a couple of the easiest--and most helpful--ways you can help us serve WFHS:

1. Join the Cougar Challenge Our sole purpose as a PTSA is supporting the WFHS students and staff, and 100% of Cougar Challenge donations go toward fulfilling that purpose! Our goal this year is $5,000. All you have to do to help is go to our "Memberships & Donations" page, select "Cougar Challenge", and enter the amount you want to donate as your quantity.
2. Link your Rewards Cards! It takes just a couple of minutes to do on your own. Go to the Fundraising page on our website to enter your information for Harris Teeter, Lowes, and Publix, or click the links to go directly to the applicable page on each store's website. From August 1-July 31, a portion of everything you buy at these stores will go to support the school, and you don't have to do a single thing after linking it except shop as you normally would! Don't have time to do it yourself? We can do Harris Teeter and Lowes for you if you give us your number via the Cougar Connections form!
3. Donate to The Giving Tree! The Giving Tree is a local non-profit that accepts donations from the community with the specific goal of using the proceeds to generate funds for local schools! A few times each year, The Giving Tree allows us to have a Donation Drive, during which WFHS receives Triple Donation Credit. Our next Donation Drive is coming soon (date TBD--be on the lookout!!). Participation in the Donation Drive is simple! All you do is grab a paper bag or box, fill it with gently used home goods, and drop it off at The Giving Tree (839 South Main Street) during the Donation Week. They accept donations Monday-Saturday from 10:30-4:30. There is a list of allowed goods and donation instructions on the "Donate" page of their website.
4. Shop AmazonSmile! It's the exact same as shopping with Amazon, except you get the benefit of having a small portion of your purchase automatically go to the charity of your choice! Just go to smile.amazon.com, log in with your usual Amazon credentials, select "Wake Forest High School PTSA" as your charity, and you're done!! Need help? Click HERE for Amazon's instructions!

SENIOR SECTION

Seniors...

You are about to embark upon one of the most incredible, overwhelming, and exciting years of your life...are you ready?!?!?!

There will be a LOT of information flying at you in the coming months. Two sources you need to save and check often are the PTSA Senior Information page and the WFHS Senior Information page, as well as your Class of 2023 Facebook page. These pages will each have different pieces of info, so check them all frequently!!

Let's start with Senior Portraits...it's already time!! Visit Prestige Portraits' website to sign up for a session. There are early bird discounts available, so book now! Please remember--the ONLY way to be included in the yearbook is to have Prestige take your portrait.

Second, you need to mark your calendars NOW for Senior Night!! The Class of 2023's Senior Night will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 6:00pm. More information will be released soon, so keep an eye out for it!!

Senior Parents...

This year isn't just incredible, overwhelming, and exciting for your Senior...it is for YOU, too!! Hang on tight and grab the camera (and maybe some tissues!), 'cuz it's time to rock and roll!!

You may be wondering how you can keep up with everything going on this year. We definitely encourage you to check the Senior Information websites mentioned above--and check them often!--but we have another way for you to stay up-to-date as well: join the Senior Events Committee!! Through this committee, the PTSA treats our Seniors all year long, and there are a LOT of different opportunities for you to help out! If you're interested in participating in any way, please complete this form so we can reach out to you!

The very first two events are quickly approaching: Deck the Deck (August 28th) and First Week Treats! Check out this Signup Genius for ways to help. We need supplies (snacks, chalk, markers, etc.) and volunteers to help prepare the parking deck, decorate the school, man Deck the Deck, and clean up decorations. We can't wait to begin celebrating the Class of 2023 with you!!
