CORNUCOPIA FOOD PANTRY
From Mary Jane & Hugh Tyler, Liaisons
(1) Cornucopia still relies on local grocers for food "rescue". The rescue process requires a number of "regular" volunteers, including at least two from our church, and several others. As grocers are currently "sold out" on many normally stocked items, the pantry's intake of rescued food has been significantly reduced. Additionally, at least two food rescue volunteers have decided to minimize health risks by suspending food pick up.
(2) Waysmeet has restructured pantry shopping and rules as follows: (A) The pantry will be open three days each week: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays - - three hours each day. (B) Patrons may order food baskets once weekly scheduled by "appointment" only. (C) Each pantry opening will be manned by two volunteer who pack boxes per scheduled appointments that are at 10 minute intervals. Food boxes will be placed outside of the Waysmeet building for pickup by the patrons. No patrons will be allowed into the Waysmeet building, and there will be no contact between patrons and Waysmeet volunteers. Chuck Goeller or his designee will supervise pickup by the patrons.
How Community Church can support Cornucopia: Cornucopia needs volunteers for food rescue. Food rescue involves early morning pickup requiring entering the grocery store, picking up pre-defined foods, loading into personal cars, transporting to the food pantry, and storing into appropriate freezers, refrigerators, shelves, etc. Boxes of foods could weigh 25 or 30 pounds. The "training process" for food rescue would be as short as a conversation with someone who has done it before. Contact Chuck Goeller at Waysmeet/Cornucopia: 15 Mill Rd., Durham, 603-862-1165
ECHO THRIFT SHOP:
Doing Any Spring Cleaning?
While ECHO's closed for this period, volunteers have placed plastic bins just outside the ECHO doors off the parking lot. If you have clothing to donate, you're encouraged to use these bins, knowing that volunteers will pick up donations regularly.
