Bill C-51 (commonly referred to as the "anti-terrorism bill") is set to go to final reading this week in the House of Commons. It was introduced in January by the Conservatives as a response to the recent terror threats and attacks in Canada.
If passed Bill C-51 would change national security measures significantly. The legislation gives the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) the ability to expand no-fly lists, allow police to have greater control in limiting the movement of a suspect and increase the amount of time they can be kept in preventative detention. It would also allow for increased intelligence sharing between law enforcement agencies.
