If your family hasn't started it yet, there's still plenty of time. If you're a speed reader and you've already finished, congratulations! The challenge officially ends on July 31st. Prizes can be collected any time we're open, and the last day to pick them up is August 13th. Happy reading! | EXPLORE In the summer Explore series we explore a new topic in science every week! On July 3rd, we'll learn about how agriculture is related to baseball from our friends at the Piatt County Farm Bureau. Children of all ages are welcome to attend. This event takes place Monday, July 3rd at 10:00 AM. No registration is required. | Teen Cafe All tweens and teens age 12-18 are welcome to join us at Teen Cafe! Teen Cafe is a laidback cooking class where we make unique snacks and coffeeshop treats. We'll be making mini waffles and sparkling lemonade on Thursday, July 6th at 4:00, and on July 20th we'll be making a smoothie bowl! | Explore: Slime! ========== On Monday, July 10th at 10:00 AM your family can join us in making SLIME! This activity is open to all ages. | Bingo Bingo for adults is taking place on Monday, July 10th at 2:00 PM this month. | Terrific Tuesdays: Juggling and Variety Show with Jason Kollum Join us on Tuesday, July 11th at 10:00 AM for Jason Kollum's juggling and variety show! Jason's act features amazing balancing and juggling stunts, spinning plates, balls, frisbees, and more! Jason's show is comedic, highly interactive, and engaging for all ages. No registration is required. You won't want to miss this Terrific Tuesday! | Explore: Local History and Natural Science The Museum and Education Department of the Champaign County Forest Preserve will share the natural and cultural history of our central Illinois region. They'll be bringing museum artifacts for a hands-on lesson, and even a live turtle! The CCFP recommends this program to ages 6-11. No registration required! | Terrific Tuesdays: Comic Book Workshop with Do Art Productions Does your child love comics and graphic novels? This interactive workshop is the perfect opportunity for them to create their own! Do Art Productions will lead us in creating a storyboard and the artwork to go with it. This workshop will last about two hours and is recommended for ages 7+. No registration is required. | All Ages Story Time Story Time for families will take place on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM in July! This half hour program is most suitable for babies through preschoolers, but it is open to children of all ages. | Preschool Songs and Movement Did you know that music and singing are proven to help young children learn to read? This new active and engaging program is designed for littles who are walking and talking. Singing, dancing, and simple instruments will all be incorporated in this half hour program. The simple rhymes, movements and songs incorporated into this program will help your child develop the pre-literacy skills that they will need in school. Preschool Songs and Movement will take place every Thursday at 10:00 AM in July. | Play Time Open play time in the program room will continue to take place all summer long! Drop in any time between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. | Cold Drinks and Conversation This new program for adults will take place every Tuesday at 2:00 PM. Beat the heat by coming in to the library and enjoy snacks and drinks while chatting or playing cards. | Crafternoon On Thursday, July 20th at 2:00 PM, we will be making a Christmas in July craft! This program is for creative adults who want to learn a new crafting skill each month. | Learn Together, Grow Together Book Group Explore nonfiction at our library's Learn Together, Grow Together book group! Join us for captivating stories, biographies, and more. Connect with fellow readers, broaden your horizons, and be inspired. We are meeting Thursday, July 20 at 6:00 PM to discuss Muppets in Moscow by Natasha Lance Rogoff. | Explore: Bee-ing a Plant Detective with Piatt County 4-H On Monday, July 24th at 10:00 AM, we're exploring all things bees! This interactive program with Piatt County 4-H will go over everything that our pollinator pals do for plants. 4-H recommends this program to ages 5-18. Registration with 4-H is required! Register here. | Terrific Tuesdays: Neotropical Frogs with the UIUC Fischer Lab Scientists from the University of Illinois are bringing their frogs to the library! Join us on Tuesday, July 25th at 10:00 AM to see and learn all about these tropical amphibians. Open to all ages! | Super Saturday The comfort dogs from Paw Print Ministries are coming back to the library to be read to! This program is open to people of all ages. Mark your calendars for July 29th at 10:00 AM! | We're Now Circulating Roku Sticks A Roku streaming stick is now available to check out from Allerton Public library! What is a Roku stick? It's a streaming device that can be plugged into any tv with a HDMI port. Just plug in the stick, connect to wifi, and start streaming! The stick comes preloaded with the Roku Channel and the Roku Kid's Channel. Roku sticks can be checked out for one week.
