Detroit

November 2023

Welcome Back!

Ah, November. The smell and sound of the crunchy leaves under our feet....the shorter amount of daylight hours....the aromas of pumpkin pie, turkey, and holiday spices....the warmth of candlelight....'tis the season of Thanksgiving. Last month our neighbors in Canada celebrated and this week we will be celebrating in the USA. We all have things to be thankful for, even if we are in a period of challenge, so it is important to take inventory of the good things, the graces, in our lives. We at Transearch Detroit took some time to share the things that we are most thankful for in our personal lives and in the workplace (posted beneath this paragraph). And at the following LinkedIn post, we shared the highlights of what we are most thankful for in our workplace this season -- make sure to check it out and please take the poll and/or share in the comments section what YOU are most thankful for: Our LinkedIn Thanksgiving Post!

What the TS-Detroit Staff is Most Thankful For in Our Personal Lives:
* Our pets
* Family/Parents/Grandchildren
* Friends
* Our health and that of our families

What We are Most Thankful For in Our Workplace:
* A committed, collaborative team of coworkers
* The opportunities to learn alongside and from our teammates, clients, candidates, and for formal, external training through seminars/conferences
* Being able to successfully work remotely and still feel as vibrant a part of the team
* Our dedication and ability as a team to see things through to the end

The one theme that was most recurrent related to our work lives was being part of a collaborative team. And as I reflected upon a November/Thanksgiving message, I thought of how fitting it was that we as a team emphasized collaboration as what we're most thankful for in the workplace, because think about Thanksgiving celebrations that you've attended and the collaboration that is central to making such events meaningful and enjoyable (or as one would say from the business perspective, "successful"). Well, I found a great article about the importance of collaboration in the workplace, written by TRANSEARCH International's very own John O. Burdett, entitled, "Collaborate or Die!" The excerpt from the article is posted at the bottom of our newsletter. To read the full article, you'll need to click on the "DOWNLOAD HERE" link shown in the excerpt. We encourage you to take the time to read through this insightful, educational article in its entirety over the weekend. But first, check out our Featured Candidate(s) and Position(s) below.

Collaborate or Die!

The Age of Discontinuous Change: Thriving Through Collaboration

Economists talk about a “tipping point.” Historians use the term, “a hinge in history.” Management writers dramatically overuse the term, but “transformation” describes the same phenomena. Personally, I prefer the term “discontinuous change.” However you describe it, recent records reveal that about once every hundred years business and society go through a period of dramatic reinvention.

Today’s catalysts for change are the environment, diversity, inclusion, AI, hybrid employment, smart robots and the shift of power from the enterprise to the employee. And quantum computing lies in the wings. The overriding challenge? Enabling collaboration to thrive in the face of complexity, uncertainty, an avalanche of data and the need to compete on ideas.

Collaboration is far more than a skill or a capability. Like storytelling, although far, far older, it’s the essence of who we are as a species.
