Coaching Courses

COACHING COURSES AND YOU!! Our Club thrives on volunteer efforts, especially by our volunteer coaches, for Rabbit and Recreational programs. All that is required is enthusiasm for skiing!
The coach courses available this year are:

The Introduction to Community Coaching Course (ICC) is now online (instead of taking up a whole weekend). There are two online modules to do. “Coach Initiation in Sport”, is a mandatory requirement before doing the Introduction to Community Coaching module. These two online modules will teach parents and entry-level coaches how to deliver a series of age-appropriate skill development sessions in a safe environment to children in the Active Start stage of development (Bunnyrabbits). Coaches will also learn about ethics in sport and their liability, how to set up an effective ski playground, how to utilize terrain to teach technique, and how to advise parents on the ski equipment and clothing needs of their children.
To do the ICC course, message Marilyn for the information - Marilyn

Community Coaching Course - The next step is the on-snow Community Coaching (CC) course on Mt Washington December 8-9. The in-class and on-snow workshop will teach community coaches how to lead a skill development program at the club level. Coaches will also learn how to teach basic cross-country skiing skills (both classic and skate), design a seasonal plan and how to select equipment and prepare skis.
The ICC course is prerequisite for the CC course.

Rick Morson, cross-country ski enthusiast, founder and title sponsor of the CIBC Wood Gundy Ski School Program, presented his annual cheque at our AGM at the beginning of November for $2700. Rick raises the money through his Children's Miracle Fund. The club is extremely appreciative of his annual contribution as it provides subsidy monies for children who otherwise may not be able to afford the experience of cross-country skiing. Teachers sign their classes up for a 3 day set of lessons and for many children this is their first time on cross-country skis. Thousands of children over the last 15 years have been part of the program and hundreds have benefitted from the subsidy money. On behalf of those children and teachers, Thank you Rick!

Club Membership Drive

Once again our club is part of the province-wide membership drive. Across the province, so far, membership is up by 1500 members! There are five regions competing across the country and here`s the latest for our region, from Cross Country BC, Group C: The entire group continues its advance on Hollyburn, with Cariboo and Strathcona leading the charge. Snow Valley and Bulkley Valley are next. Golden has been quiet; what are they scheming? Congrats to Bulkley Valley for the biggest gain of the week.

We won this contest two years ago and won tons of prizes for our club and we gave those items away at the banquet and AGM in fun draws. Check out the prizes on the following link, Club Membership Contest.

With just over 3 weeks left in the drive, make sure to sign up early and take advantage of the early bird prices by November 30th and then tell all your friends. Check out our new website Strathcona Nordics, find us on Facebook Facebook and Instagram Instagram and spread the great news about our club.

Social Media Butterflies

We would love some help spreading the news about our club on social media. There are so many aspects, perspectives, and areas of our club that could be highlighted, from bunnies to masters, recreation to racing, coaching to officiating, never mind just the beauty of the place we ski. Email Lynn Swift if you are interested in helping out in this area or if you have questions about levels of commitment.
