AN URGENT CALL TO ACTION:
As you know the assisted suicide debate is in full force in Canada RIGHT NOW. Over the next weeks Parliament will be deciding just how wide they will swing the doors open to it. Now is a critical time for our leaders to hear our voices.
Please consider this:
A report in Current Oncology in 2011 summarized euthanasia in the Netherlands by saying that in 30 years, it “has moved from euthanasia of people who are terminally ill, to euthanasia of those who are chronically ill; from euthanasia for physical illness, to euthanasia for mental illness; from euthanasia for mental illness, to euthanasia for psychological distress of mental suffering,” and now to euthanasia of those over 70 who are simply “tired of living.” - (Calgary Herald — January 3, 2014)
Dutch doctors are now saying that the "anguish of parents" is a good enough reason to euthanize disabled children. Other reports reveal that in nations that have opened the doors to assisted suicide, "...euthanasia becomes expected and inevitable and everything else – such as good palliative care and a functional hospice movement — is gradually portrayed as rather selfish.” (Daily Mail, United Kingdom — September 24, 2013)
Babies are being euthanized & the elderly and disabled made to feel, at times, that it is their "duty to die". This is a fact. These nations began with strict and conservative regulations regarding assisted suicide but over time have flung the doors wide open. The slippery slope is real and has happened in other nations.
Is this the kind of Canada we want?
If it is not, now is the time to act.

This week MY Canada is launching a postcard campaign where we will send 9 postcards, over 9 days, to all the members on the assisted suicide committee, to the Minister of Justice and to Prime Minister Trudeau. To see the 9 postcards please scroll to the end of this e-mail.

Because of the importance of this issue we don't want anyone to be inhibited in participating because of cost or time constraints. Because of this MY Canada is going to do all the work and also is currently underwriting the full printing cost for the first wave of postcards (just over $2,500 for 22,500 postcards). If the funds come in, we will send even more!!
