Join us for as much time as you can give ~ it will be appreciated! Doors will not open for guests until 10am. Volunteers will need to knock on warehouse door (front or back) to be let in anytime between 9:30-10am. ▪Volunteers will be needed outside to help direct people to the warehouse. There is some parking near and around warehouse, but some attendees will need to park down in the lot and walk. (Volunteers are asked to park in the lot and walk up, unless they have need of the handicapped spot that is available at the front of warehouse or another close spot for mobility reasons.) ▪A volunteer will be needed upstairs in the Activity Room, so guests can access the upstairs bathrooms, if needed. ▪Volunteers will be needed to be stationed at the doors at each end of the warehouse to remind people that masks must be worn to enter. We will have disposable masks available at each door. Masks are required for volunteers and guests when inside the warehouse and building as we continue to strive to do our part to keep the community as safe as possible. ▪Volunteers will be needed inside the warehouse to help with reorganizing if areas get messy, to assist people, and to answer questions. ▪Volunteers will be needed to help carry selections, sometimes while a guest is shopping as well as out to cars. ▪We are thrilled to have volunteers of all ages, young, older, and in-between - all welcome and gratefully appreciated! Keep spreading the word that all are invited to come out on Saturday, no cost, no proof of residence or income requirements. We welcome everyone who may have a need! | Volunteering is Fun ~ Thanks For All Your Help! We couldn't have gotten the warehouse set up for Saturday without each and every one of our spectacular volunteers and our GG crew! You are all appreciated! It has been a lot of work, but also a lot of fun sorting and organizing together. We have not made any decisions for when we will begin cleaning up. We'll keep you posted! We're thinking about having it open and available next Saturday, informally, since we will be here creating apple butter deliciousness. There is an opportunity for youth to volunteer tonight at 6pm in the warehouse and we'll wrap up the last of the set-up tomorrow, between 9:30am-2pm. Thanks, everyone! | Freezer Meal Making Thanks for all the willing hands in the kitchen on Monday evening! These meals will be used to be a blessing whenever there's a need. | Prayer For whom are you praying today? How can we pray for you? We are here to pray with and for you, anytime! Prayer needs sent by early Monday morning will be included in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week! | Encouragement Thank you to Marcia Kreps for sharing and Darla Smith for writing these weekly bits of encouragement. "Good afternoon to all of you! Another week of sunshine and color here in the northeast. I pray wherever this finds you – you are enjoying God’s glory. Blessed be his Wonderful Name! Everyday in His presence is so sweet. If we could learn to stay close to Him now more than ever – all the other hindrances would be just a whisper." "Our Word for today is “COMPARE.” Who “compares” to God – no one – no other? For the past couple weeks, I have been doing the “compare” craziness. Been struggling with my weight loss (or lack of). Trying to figure out what to do – what not to do. Looking at everything else to “compare” different ways that work or don’t work. Looking at others to “compare” what worked for them or not. Really loaded my mind with so much stuff that nothing made sense. The Holy Spirit checked me and said to stop “comparing” everything. Rest in Me, trust in Me, depend on Me. We are who we are, no one to “compare” to. We are made complete in Him. All we need is in Him. Nothing “compares” to Him. I am trying to clear my mind of any “compare” that creeps in. This encouragement may have been just for me this week. If it speaks to you as well, I am glad. We will be encouraged together. We are all on this journey and He will make our path clear and free of “compare” or clutter. We just need to let Him! I pray you have a super week with Him!" So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you. ~ 1 Peter 5:6-7 (MSG) | October Worship ~ Online & In-Person Pastor Mike Hileman ~ Sundays at 11:00am Join us at church or online via Facebook Live: Connecting Life We're excited to welcome you to Worship, in church and online! | Old-Fashioned Apple Butter Making Saturday, October 23, 9:30am to ?? Come join in the fun at this special event, a first for Common Ground Church Community, Connecting Life Church, and Goodness Grows! Guided by Sally & Fred Carrier, Jen Shannon, and their long family tradition of apple butter making over a roaring fire, we'll be working to create this seasonal delight. Participants will be able to take some home and Goodness Grows will use the rest for fundraising! The end time is stated as a question because we just don't know. A possible estimate has the event concluding about 7pm, but it could be earlier or later. It depends on things like the heat of the fire, the types of the apples, and more. All we know for sure is that it will end after the last bit of yumminess is canned! YOU are enthusiastically invited to join in anytime throughout the day to help with the process and enjoy fellowship while basking in the scent of apples cooking. We are also asking for donations of any variety of clean apples (we'll end up using at least 5 bushels) as well as regular mouth pint jars and lids. We can use either the one piece lids or the lid/ring combo. Please drop all donations off at church by October 20. Thank you! (Thanks to those who've already donated!) | www.goodnessgrows4all.org Our Mission Statement: To cultivate personal, social, and community growth through gardening, education, and opportunity for people of all abilities. ~~~ | News of the Week The week of the Giveaway is always a busy one! We spent time in the warehouse, helping with set-up as well as straightening up. We were glad to have so many volunteers to work alongside! We will be unloading some more donations today and we will be at work back in the warehouse tomorrow. We are still harvesting some produce...some of which will be available at the Giveaway. (Today we are heading to the fairgrounds to pick up some packaged bean & rice meals from The Ohio State University Food Security Be Kind Event. These will also be available at the Giveaway.) The peppers that were ready to be picked have been frozen for wintertime jam making. Along with harvesting, we've also been planting! Now's the time to plant certain onions and garlic so that they can be covered up and snug in the ground for the cold winter days. Some of these items will give us an earlier harvest in the spring...hopefully! Taking care of fields and gardens in the fall still requires weeding. (It seems like our crew could now weed with their eyes closed, after having so much practice!) We have also been pulling out plants that have finished producing and neatening up the growing areas. Before too long, cover crops will be planted, the farming work will be done, and we will enjoy taking a bit of a break while diving into winter activities and tasks. If you would like to volunteer with us, whether for weeding, working in the kitchen, or sharing a skill you have, you are more than welcome! We would love to have you be a part of our GG family! | We Are Collecting... GG is collecting egg shells, egg cartons, plastic grocery bags, and coffee grounds. Please leave cartons and bags at the front desk. Egg shells and coffee grounds can be placed in the new black wastebasket to the left of the pew by the Café. Thank you for the items that have already come in! | Jungle Jam & Juicy Jam Jungle Jam and Juicy Jam are available in several flavors at Reach for the STARS in Salem and in Columbiana at the Chamber of Commerce office.
