Hats Fringe In The Valley Continues

thanksforallyourhelp

Hi Everyone
Thanks for all your help in making OUR FRINGE IN THE VALLEY so successful to date. Three amazing shows have been presented all very different and all very well supported. We have two shows left of our fringe program in Auburn and three shows in Adelaide and then it will all be over for another year. People have traveled from all points of SA to share them with us & many new faces have come through the doors of the old Courthouse. So if you are receiving this newsletter for the very first time we welcome you and look forward to seeing you back again soon.We have had many many positive comments about the work of Hats the excellent & varied program we continue to deliver in the intimate and comfortable venue
and everyone is thunderstruck that this level of delivery of performing arts events is done with NO external funding NO paid staff and with NO financial input from local council or arts bodies. People visiting from Adelaide can not believe that this is all happening in a small regional town like Auburn. It really does put a whole new spin on the importance of performing Arts events and makes you wonder what Hats could do if it was supported with external funding.????? Meantime thanks to you all for coming to our shows to the wonderful performers who have performed and to our fantastic volunteers who help make it all happen.
I would also like to make mention of a very special school show that will be happening this month and is just a further example of the amazing performers who support Hats and our local community. Touring from Italy is an International Puppet show they heard about the bush fires in OUR region and consequently they offered to take a FREE show to the school children affected by the Pinnery fire.Hats has set up a special show that will be performed at Owen School and where other schools and members of the local community from the area will join them for this special performance.Thank you Di Filippo Marionette so spread the word about these great guys and if you want to see their show OR you want it to come to your school contact us asap.
Looking forward at seeing you at another Hats show very soon.Meantime happy fringing.
Cherie & the team at Hats.

Jonathan returns to Hats Fringe with more beautiful guitar music. Last here in 2014, Jonathan wowed audiences with his dynamic musicality and vibrant, expressive playing. Jonathan has had a busy year in 2015 touring to venues in the UK and performing at the Edinburgh Fringe, where he appeared on Scottish Television’s daily round-up.
Jonathan will be playing a programme that includes some of the gems of the classical guitar repertoire like the ‘Prelude, Fugue and Allegro’ by Bach, and the stunning ‘Catedral’ by Barrios. He is also playing one of the masterpieces of the contemporary era, Koshkin’s dramatic ‘Usher Waltz’. There will be all the toe-tapping excitement of Latin rhythms from Argentina and also music from Japan, Ireland and Greece - a veritable musical feast ‘…superb classical guitarist’ [Krysztoff RAW], ‘…most impressive’ [The Scotsman]
‘…wonderfully textured and expressive - Prag’s technique is close to flawless.’[Broadway Baby] ‘
An intimate setting and superb classical guitarist, filling the courthouse with music that at times carries you away – a very pleasant way to spend an evening. The whole ‘up close’ thing, a guitar that is alive with warmth and seemingly a part of the musician’s body, and music – what a privilege to be a part of such a simple and yet exquisite experience that’s what to expect at a Jonathan Prag Hats Courthouse concert. www.jonathanprag.com

Fred Smith ( Vic) Dust Of Uruzgan
Friday 29th April
Time 8pm
E bookings@hatsincsa.com OR T 8849 2420
In July 2009, Fred was the first Australian diplomat to be posted to Uruzgan province, Afghanistan. His main job was to build relationships with tribal leaders in order to improve cooperation and understanding between the local community and the Coalition Forces to act as a bridge between these two vastly different cultures. This put him in a unique position to understand both.
Whilst in Afghanistan, Fred wrote a collection of powerful songs about his experiences and the realities of life for soldiers in this difficult war. These songs were released in 2011on an album called “Dust of Uruzgan”. The album won featured reviews and front pages in The Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Melbourne Age.
“the music of Fred Smith comes straight from the front line...raw, ribald, but also capable of moving grown men to tears.John Huxley, Sydney Morning Herald, 28 July 2011
