Birch Green Care Home hosts dementia session
With around 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia, it’s becoming more and more important to increase awareness on how the condition affects people’s lives.
Recently, we welcomed local Dementia Friends Champion Joe Sherville back to Birch Green Care Home, where he delivered an information session to help people understand more about dementia, and how they can help those affected.

Congratulations
A HUGE congratulations from everyone at Affinity Supporting People to proud parents Matt & Abbie, on the birth of their beautiful son Denley James Armstrong - Denley was born on Thursday 25th June at 7.25am and he weighed 9lb 5.5oz.
Happy birthday Susan
We sang happy birthday to Susan and enjoyed a piece of her lovely birthday cake.

‘With a little help from my friends’ for Beatles-themed room
Friends, family members and the community are invited to ‘come together’ at Birch Green for a special event marking the opening of our new dementia suite including a Beatles-themed room.
The newly-decorated dementia suite has been decorated with help and donations from so many supporters – including a themed room nicknamed the Cavern Club, complete with memorabilia gifted by the Cavern Club itself.

A big THANK YOU to Sharon
Sharon Roberts from our local Asda store has our heartfelt thanks for her recent donations.
Sharon, who has always been a big supporter of the work we do here at Birch Green, held a book sale and donated £60 to buy resources for our dementia suite.
We’d all like to thank Sharon for her continuing support and hard work, it makes a real difference.
We will be holding an afternoon tea sing-a-long next week to sing 'Thank You' to Sharon in Birch Green style!
Holiday themed fun at Birch Green
Every month or for a special occasion, staff and residents of Birch Green create a themed central display to greet guests and visitors as they enter the reception area.
This month, a deckchair, buckets and spades, a picnic basket, beach balls, a suitcase and sandcastles make up the fabulous summer holiday themed display for everyone to enjoy and engage with.

Riversway annual BBQ
Join us at Riversway Nursing Home for our annual BBQ & refreshments on Saturday 8th August at 3pm - All family & friends welcome.
Hopefully the sun will have his hat on...
Filling the home with music
Popular local singer Andy T, a regular visitor to Riversway, popped in recently to entertain us.
We had a lovely afternoon of entertainment and the home truly was filled with music. Everyone was singing along and a few of us got up for a dance too.
As always, Andy sang a lot of our favourite songs, and we’ll be looking forward to his next visit.
Two Riversway residents made the most of a beautiful day of sunshine recently on a visit to a local garden centre.
Some of the products on sale took Colin's fancy, as he inspected some plant pots and a lovely model of a cat.
Long may the warm weather continue so we can keep enjoying the outdoors.

You’re invited to our fantastic family fun day
Keep your fingers crossed for a sun-soaked August bank holiday, because on Saturday 29th we’re holding a family fun day, jam-packed with fun activities and events.
We’ll be throwing open our doors to welcome friends, families and members of the local community into our home for fun and frolics.
We’re in the midst of strawberry season and as the crowds at Wimbledon were no doubt tucking into the traditional championship snack, Springhill’s residents were treated to some special themed treats.
Strawberry fever took over as strawberries and cream were served up along with flavoured cupcakes, milkshakes, yoghurts, ice creams and jam sponge rolls.
We’re all big fans of anything that is both tasty and good for you, so our treats put a smile on everyone’s faces.
Margaret’s marvellous melodies
Residents were happy to see our good friend Margaret as she made her latest visit to Springhill.
Margaret always pleases by singing the old classics, as well as bringing fun fancy dress items for everyone to try on, including Hawaiian themed hula skirts, floral garlands and hats.
A host of delicious refreshments were on hand as we all enjoyed another entertaining performance, with plenty of singing-along and joining in as usual.
