The Celebrity

goodbye holidays 2

Hi there,

I don't know any celebrities, and if I did, they probably wouldn't stay at my house, but I can imagine what it would be like if they did stay at my house. High excitement and drama, plenty of glitz and glam, lavish over-the-top events, an endless array of rich food, too much alcohol, and a complete disconnect from the real world.

That's exactly how I see the holidays. They are like my imaginary celebrity friend. I can't wait till she gets here, am thrilled by the visit, and when it's time for her to go, I am ready to say goodbye. The thrill of it all can be quite overwhelming, and I breath a deep sigh of relief as we take down the tree, pack up the ornaments, and see the bottom of the peanut brittle continue reading

All the fun things going on!

Fabulous Cardigan for now and later

A perfect and pretty way to start the new year is this swingy cardigan. If you love an all in one piece construction, this is right up your alley. With angled fronts and an easy lace motif on the back, this sweater is stylish and flattering. We're using a beautiful alpaca yarn that adds to the drape on this garment. Melissa, our No Plain Jane pro will be leading this knitalong Saturday afternoons at 2 pm through February 9th. Jump in anytime!

Stay Soft

Are you the kind of person who reads the last page of a book first? Just can't stand not knowing how it all comes out?I get it. So, instead of a mystery knit, Mary is doing a Certainty Shawl Knitalong. It'll still be fun but you'll know how it all comes out before you start, so you know you'll like it. You fast knitters can read ahead and work ahead if you like.

The pattern is Stay Soft by Veera Välimäki, who brought us the wildly popular Color Affection Shawl. Stay soft is easy and fun in a two-color garter stitch stripe and a sweet almost ruffled edge. The yarn is continue reading

Mindfulness retreat

Join us for a wonderful, refreshing mini-retreat with yoga instructor MaryEllen Steveling. This is a day for you. It is a day to learn about and practice mindfulness, awareness, and gratitude through yoga, knitting, and journaling. While knitting was touted some years back as the new yoga. I think that's perhaps pushing it a bit, but knitting, yoga, and journaling are definitely linked. Yoga is an ancient practice widely recognized for its ability to soothe and create a sensation of peace. Knitting has much the same ability to create calm, put you in a relaxed state, and open your mind more info and to register

Our selection for this month is Educated, by Tara Westover. It's the gripping story of a young girl living in a separatist family in rural Idaho. I don't want to spoil it for you, I won't say much about the plot, but it is a fascinating glimpse into an alien lifestyle. At times, it's hard to hear what happens to the various family members, and even harder to accept that this is a memoir of the real life of a survivor. Beautifully and honestly written, it's poignant, frightening, and in the end, continue reading
Please note that this month is a little off our usual schedule of the last Wednesday of the month. Please Join us Wednesday, January 23rd - details

map and ship

You still have a chance to join me on a fabulous Viking River Cruise through the Bordeaux region of France - home of legendary castles, chateaux, and wine. I'm not big cruise ship kinda girl, but this is a small, luxury ship built for the Gironde, a very small waterway where the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers meet. I've always wanted to do a trip like this -- it's going to be amazing! We'll have beautiful sights, delicious food, and legendary wine. If you are thinking of signing up, there is still space.
