HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RIPTA!

RIPTA is celebrating fifty years of public transportation! 2016 marks RIPTA’s 50TH anniversary of providing bus service to Rhode Islanders! It will be a yearlong celebration of looking back at RIPTA’s history, as well as looking forward. BUS STOP DESIGN GUIDE

RIPTA is currently developing bus stop design guidelines for use by RIPTA, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, municipalities and others, when roads with RIPTA bus routes are reconstructed or otherwise improved. Your input is valuable in helping to set guidelines describe where and how a bus stop should be built. If you weren’t able to attend one of the scheduled community meetings, please click here to view the presentation. RIPTA will be accepting feedback on the presentation and proposed bus stop design concepts through Friday, July 15, 2016. Please email Pam Sherrill at sherrill6@cox.net with your feedback.

RIPTA Takes Part in “Power of Place Summit”

RIPTA was one of the sponsors of this year’s “Power of Place Summit” hosted by GrowSmart RI. The event, which was held June 21st at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, drew more than 450 public officials, business leaders and engaged citizens from throughout the state and beyond.

"It was energizing for the smart growth movement to bring together such a large and diverse group of Rhode Islanders committed to the same thing - shaping a stronger and more vibrant Rhode Island,” said John Flaherty, Deputy Director of GrowSmart RI. “Mass transit figures prominently in that (vision) as business and civic leaders are increasingly seeing transit as a key competitive advantage to building and sustaining a strong and dynamic 21st century economy."

It was an activity-packed day with session topics that included the state’s housing market, transit goals for the future, the impact of climate change on historic communities, and the importance of a complete bike trail network. Flaherty said that GrowSmart is compiling some of the presentations from the event and will be making the information available on its website.
