Submit your thoughts on AAMPO's transportation planning process to FHWA and FTA by May 8, 2023 by email, phone or mail.

On April 5, 2023, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) hosted a public listening session to hear the public's views on the transportation planning process in the Alamo Area.

If you were not able to attend the public listening session you can still participate in the certification review by sending your comments directly to FTA or FHWA.

FTA and FHWA's PowerPoint presentation is available for review on our website. Your comments will be taken into consideration while FHWA and FTA complete their evaluation of AAMPO’s transportation planning process for the Alamo Area.

Learn how to "Spare the Air" for a free fiesta medal from April 20 -30, 2023

Spare the Air is this year's Fiesta medal campaign for AAMPO and Alamo Commutes. This campaign is all about informing the community of simple steps to improving air quality. You are encouraged to take an active role and make a difference. You can earn our free 2023 Spare the Air fiesta medal by simply taking part in a 2-3 minute presentation on ways you can help clean the air. We have 1,000 medals this year, a specific number will be reserved for each event. The Fiesta medals will be handed-out on a first-come, first-served basis, at Fiesta events only.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in partnership with the FIESTA San Antonio Commission, San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriff's Department, and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) kicked off the annual 2023 FIESTA Safe Drive Sober. No Regrets campaign.

This campaign emphasizes having a safety plan in place prior to leaving home. TxDOT will educate the community by displaying safety messages on the Dynamic Message Signs on our highways as millions of local residents and visitors take part in the FIESTA festivities. TxDOT is reminding everyone to celebrate FIESTA safely and always choose a sober ride. Remember to plan ahead and make this another alcohol fatality free FIESTA.

CycloViva! is a family-centered event encouraging everyone to get outside, get active and explore the West End on a car-free street. CycloViva! will be hosted on April 30 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM, located along West San Antonio Street at Eikel Park.

There will be many opportunities for you to try out a Das Rec fitness class, hear from local nutrition experts, and see many performers for the day. So bike, walk, or skate your way from Eikel Park to Walnut Avenue!

CycloViva! is open to all ages and free to participate! Join this fun-filled day on West San Antonio Street!

May is National Bike Month. Bike to Work Day (BTWD) takes place this year on May 19, 2023. BTWD encourages everyone to hop on a bike to get to work. AAMPO, Alamo Commutes, and community partners thank cyclists for biking to work and visiting one of the BTWD Energizer Stations where they can stop by for resources, breakfast items, and the chance to win some cool prizes on their morning commute!

VIA Metropolitan Transit President and CEO, Jeff Arndt, is named state’s Outstanding Public Transportation General Manager

The Texas Transit Association (TTA) named VIA Metropolitan Transit President and CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt as their 2023 Outstanding Public Transportation General Manager in recognition of his work and contributions to transform transportation in our region.

Each year, TTA selects a top public transportation manager who has made exceptional contributions to the transit industry and the State of Texas. With this recognition, TTA highlights Arndt’s role in expanding access to opportunity through programs like VIA’s Keep SA Moving plan. The voter-approved plan includes the region’s first Advanced Rapid Transit corridor project, expansion of VIA Link on-demand transit service, and improved bus service.

Arndt celebrates 10 years as president and CEO of the transit agency that also marks 45 years of service this year. He was presented the 2023 award Wednesday in Corpus Christi, at the Annual TTA Conference, Expo and State Roadeo.

Síclovía will be held on Sunday, May 7 from 9am-1pm

On Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 9:00 AM -1:00 PM, Síclovía will turn San Antonio streets into a safe, fun place for walking, bicycling, jogging, and enjoying outdoor activities. By making a stretch of city streets temporarily car-free, Síclovía opens the road to pedestrians, bicyclists, and recreationalists.

This year's route runs from North Alamo St. and Jones Ave to Laurel and North Main Avenue with Reclovias at Maverick Park, Madison Square Park, and Crockett Park. The Reclovías will have free group exercise classes, music, vendors, water stations, and rest areas.

This free community event is organized by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio along with key sponsors. Síclovía is San Antonio's largest health and wellness event for everyone; Síclovía is NOT a health fair and is proud to be recognized by the City of San Antonio as a certified Green Event!

The Alamo Area MPO has three regular meetings that occur each month. All AAMPO meetings are open to the public and all meeting agendas are posted on our website, www.alamoareampo.org.

The next Transportation Policy Board will be held online and in person on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at the VIA Metro Center Community Room at 1021 San Pedro Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212.

The next Technical Advisory Committee meeting will be held online and in person on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. Access the meeting here or at the TxDOT District Office in the Building 2 Hearing Room, 4615 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, Texas 78229.

The next Active Transportation Advisory Committee meeting will be held online and in person on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. Access the meeting here or join us in person at the AAMPO Office at 825 South Saint Mary's Street, San Antonio, TX 78205. The May 2023 ATAC meeting has been cancelled.
