Following this informative meeting, we sent out an urgent alert requesting prayer for the Committee of Justice and Human Rights meeting taking place on Wednesday afternoon. Committee members would be making decisions about Bill C-51, particularly in regards to clause 14 as it deals with section 176 of the Criminal Code: whether to keep explicit protections for religious leaders and gatherings currently found in the Criminal Code.
We heard it first from the office of Hon. MP Rob Nicholson's office Wednesday night that the verdict was in and section 176 would be safe!
This is a tremendous victory for freedom in Canada.
We thank God for this big win and are celebrating the work of the Church who rose up and spoke out to protect the religious freedoms we enjoy presently in this land.
Thank you to everyone who prayed, e-mailed, telephone and helped to spread the word about this potential risk to freedom. This is a reminder to Canadians that we must stand on guard for the freedoms that make Canada truly great and that when we stand together, we are strong.
