MY Canada's National Director, Faytene Grasseschi, visited the Honourable Rob Nicholson's office in Ottawa on Tuesday, November 7th to talk about Bill C-51 and its implications for religious leaders and gatherings if section 176 was removed from the Criminal Code, as proposed in Bill C-51.

(Click the viewer below to see the interview.)

Following this informative meeting, we sent out an urgent alert requesting prayer for the Committee of Justice and Human Rights meeting taking place on Wednesday afternoon. Committee members would be making decisions about Bill C-51, particularly in regards to clause 14 as it deals with section 176 of the Criminal Code: whether to keep explicit protections for religious leaders and gatherings currently found in the Criminal Code.

We heard it first from the office of Hon. MP Rob Nicholson's office Wednesday night that the verdict was in and section 176 would be safe!
This is a tremendous victory for freedom in Canada.

We thank God for this big win and are celebrating the work of the Church who rose up and spoke out to protect the religious freedoms we enjoy presently in this land.

Thank you to everyone who prayed, e-mailed, telephone and helped to spread the word about this potential risk to freedom. This is a reminder to Canadians that we must stand on guard for the freedoms that make Canada truly great and that when we stand together, we are strong.

Please click the viewer below to watch a video with Faytene and Hon. Rob Nicholson, filmed live at the MY Canada Parliamentary Reception just after he delivered the breaking news from the Committee meeting.

Although the government has conceded on Clause 14 of Bill C-51 and plans to keep section 176 of the Criminal Code in tact, the bill still needs to go through third reading before this decision is final and the potential loss of protection is avoided.

Please help us bring this victory home by doing the following:

1) E-mail your MP and the Minister of Justice.

Please take 5 minutes to write a short e-mail thanking the Government for the decision to keep section 176 of the Criminal Code and removing Clause 14 from Bill C-51 and letting them know that this protection is significant and meaningful to Canadians. Let's continue to ask them to keep religious protection in law until we see this bill make its way through the entire legislative process.

Please also include Minister of Justice, Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould in your e-mail: Jody.Wilson-Raybould@parl.gc.ca.

2) Pray.

Please pray that our government officials work to preserve and protect Canada's freedoms and that no infringement on our rights are permitted to advance.

Thank you for standing on guard for freedom in Canada.
