Sunday's Service - December 1, 2019

We welcome Andrew Stauffer to lead us in Worship this week.

Andrew and his wife, Leah, are both on the Campus Ministry staff for YSU through CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach). Andrew, who graduated from Liberty University in 2014 with a degree in religious studies, is a Campus Minister. They live with their daughter in Youngstown.

The featured Scripture comes from: Hebrews 12
for Andrew's message: Endurance, Discipline, Grace, and the Kingdom of God.

Join us this Sunday for Worship!

CG NEWS & EVENTS

Advent Candle Lighting

This week marks the first Sunday of Advent and the first of our special readings that we look forward to yearly. “Advent” is a word that means “to come” and it refers to Jesus’ coming to earth as a baby on Christmas Day. It's a time when we get ready and prepare ourselves for the coming of the Christ Child. One of the ways we can begin to prepare for a meaningful celebration of Christ’s birth is with the lighting of the candles of our Advent wreath. The circular wreath of evergreen boughs reminds us of God’s forever love. The four purple and pink candles - Hope, Faith, Joy, and Peace - will help to focus us on the true meaning of this holy season. Christmas Eve will bring the lighting of the white Christ candle, to remind us that Jesus has come as the Light of the World.

On this first day of Advent, Bill Coler will light the Hope candle and lead us in our reading.

Youth Group

For youth in 5th grade & up

Last Sunday, we discussed how Jesus treated the "least of these." We also wrote thank you notes to parents and spent some time playing games. Our Youth Group bulletin board is now complete, so check it out and see our kid's thoughts about our Sunday evenings together.

This week we will not have a normal Youth Group meeting. Instead, our youth will participate in "decking the halls" for Christmas. All ages welcome to help as we enjoy the start of the festive holiday season! See you this Sunday at 6pm!

Christmas project info below in OUTREACH and MISSION OPPORTUNITIES section.

We invite all the youth to join us for fun, fellowship, and learning this year,
most Sunday evenings from 6-7:30pm.

Last Sunday's Special Music

Big thanks go to Denise Gane and Lynn Deeter - Tried & True! We were once again blessed by their gift of song. Their brand of Worship music tied in perfectly with Pastor Hill's topic of Thanksgiving. We are certainly thankful for Denise and Lynn and their generosity in sharing their love of music with us!

Christmas Decorating ~ THIS SUNDAY, 6-7:30pm

The Youth Group invites you to a Sunday evening of decking our halls! We hope to see you for this time of tree trimming and ribbon hanging. We guarantee smiles, laughter, and Christmas music! All ages are invited to come decorate, just like always. No one is too young or too old to join in the festive spirit! Hope to see you on Sunday!

Time for New Devotionals

If you didn't pick them up last Sunday, don't forget to check out the new devotionals in the Great Room. The quarterly edition of Our Daily Bread is here to carry you in to the new year. We are also ready for the start of the Advent season (on Sunday!), with two devotional books. Our Daily Bread has "Joy to the World," containing 10 Christmas reflections. The Society of St. Andrew's book, "Written in the Stars," will provide you with Scripture readings, reflections, and prayers for the entire season from December 1st through Christmas. Take them home to enjoy with your family all season long!

Advent Reading Plan

If you are searching for another meaningful way to mark the Advent season, pick up a copy of the "Advent Reading Plan." This is a calendar with Scripture verses for each day from December 1-24. Start a new tradition...or continue an old one...with the calendar and your Bible as we count down to the birth of our Lord.

Happy Birthday, Dustin!

We kicked off this short week with a shopping trip to stock up on cooking supplies for our Tuesday lunches. We celebrated Dustin's 24th birthday with a delicious cookie cake. Our folks worked this week on taking down our autumn decorations and getting out the Christmas decorations in preparation for this weekend's decorating evening, preparing for Friendsgiving, cleaning up in the back greenhouse, cleaning the church, and, of course, making jam. It has been a busy three days!

Tuesday's lunch was beef enchiladas topped with shredded lettuce and sour cream with a side dish of corn. It was just like eating in one of our favorite, local Mexican restaurants!

Everyone at Goodness Grows wishes you a blessed Thanksgiving!

Our Top Chefs!

Friendsgiving 2019 Tonight!

Join us for a GG fundraiser at Diletto Winery in Boardman TONIGHT, Thanksgiving Eve from 6-9pm, complete with a basket raffle. The band On the Rocks will be playing. Come out & enjoy some relaxation with good friends, good food, & good music for a good cause! We'd love to see you there!

Why Support Goodness Grows?

Goodness Grows, the mission of CGCC, helps grow goodness, right here on our property. We work daily with clients in our vocational habilitation program, providing training in a wide array of life skills. Staff and clients work all around the building and property, helping to keep things running, volunteer in the community, donate to food pantries, and more. In the fall and spring, area schools use Goodness Grows as a job site, learning all sorts of skills. All proceeds from fundraisers, like Friendsgiving, go right back into our programs, to keep our mission operating. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, Goodness Grows is always looking for creative and fun ways like this to raise money to fund our programs. At Friendsgiving, we will earn 10% on total sales, $1 from each signature drink, and all funds raised through the sale of pie slices, raffle tickets, and our GG products. Diletto's wine will be available for carryout. As you might imagine, every dollar helps! Your support does matter!

~~~~~~~
For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.
.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
Matthew 25: 35-36, 40
