And Finally...

Derek Jenkinson 1935 to 2018

Many TFA members, past and present will be sorry to hear of the recent death of Derek Jenkinson. Derek devoted a considerable amount of time to the TFA and its work in supporting the tenanted sector of agriculture. He was, by any measure, one of the greats. Derek joined the TFA in November 1981, just two months after it began. He became a member of the TFA's Executive Committee as an Annual Councillor in June 1986 and was appointed National Vice Chair to Jim Harrison in February 1987, before becoming National Chairman in February 1989. He remained Chairman until February 1991 when he handed over to Martin Jenkins who sadly had to step down from the role very shortly afterwards. Derek stepped back in as National Chairman until February 1992 when he handed over to Michael Halford. He remained on the Executive Committee and took up the role of chair of the Management Committee established by the then National Chairman, Reg Haydon, in 1996. He continued in this role until February 1999 at which point he was made a Trustee of the Association. He had a short spell as Treasurer between 2008 and 2009 and eventually retired from the Executive Committee in 2011. A true stalwart of the TFA with 25 years service. His funeral service was held at St Peter's Church, Southrop, on Thursday 11 October. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Evelyn, his son Guy and the wider family.
