Hello All,

Since our last newsletter, Clinard Dance has been busy developing and touring new work with our Flamenco Quartet Project as we prepare for our upcoming March 9th show at Space in Evanston, IL.

Touring Ohio

Most recently, ensemble members Wendy Clinard and Marija Temo visited Ohio to give performances alongside dancer Alice Blumenfeld and percussionist Liam Smith in Cleveland at Night Town and demonstrations with Alice and guitarist Bruce Catalano in Oberlin at the Hebrew Heritage House. Stephen Aron has written a review (with several photos) of our activity in Oberlin. Take a look to see Wendy and Marija in action.

Flamenco Quartet Project | Space Evanston March 9th

Our March 9th performance is a return showing of the Flamenco Quartet Project at Space after playing to a sold out audience in 2019. The ensemble and venue are again partnering with Instituto Cervantes to present this show as part of the 2020 Chicago Flamenco Festival. The ensemble’s performance will showcase the work they are currently undertaking to develop and expand the flamenco repertoire by making fresh connections with the music of Son Jarocho and histories of flamenco fiestas/juergas.

In our next newsletter, we will hear from two other members of the ensemble, long time violinist Steve Gibons, and new collaborator, guitarist Rincon Camilo, with insights into the new work the ensemble will be showing at Space.

Flamenco Fiesta Workshops in Pilsen

And before our March 9th show, remember that Clinard Dance is hosting a series of flamenco fiesta workshops in Pilsen starting tomorrow and running until March 8th. The three-day series is lead by Flamenco Quartet Project vocalist/percussionist/dancer Jose Moreno and is titled Palmas, Technique, and Bulerias/Tangos Por Fiesta (March 5-8). The workshop is open to all levels of experience and will explore ways that various forms of flamenco practice intersect with traditions of flamenco parties.
