halter tank Johnny

Hi there, my friend,

People start knitting for all different reasons. I started when I was in college because I always loved sweaters, and I wanted to make my own. Sure, I loved having it as a creative outlet since I had run out of places to put my needlepoint, and yes, it was enormously helpful to knit while I put off all the papers I had to write. There’s a word for that, by the way - Procrastiknitting.

Since I came to knitting from that sweater-making route, I’ve always considered knitting a fashion-oriented hobby. Lots of my sorority sisters were knitting cute little tops and vests and more. So I was shocked, perhaps naively, so, when I found that knitting has a reputation as a hobby for old ladies, and that handknit garments are frumpy and unattractive. I was crushed, outraged even.continue

I had a super fun time doing the Rowan Mode Trunk Show last weekend. If you missed it, you can still catch it here.

If you are local, please stop by the shop and see these gorgeous garments in person before I have to send them on their way.

This was the standout garment from the Mode at Rowan Trunk Show. Designed by the fresh young, Georgia Farrell, this sweater is both stylish and cozy. Knit in wonderful Rowan Cotton Cashmere with an easy-two row lace pattern, you'll love knitting it almost as you'll love wearing it! Four gorgeous color options.

I said in a previous newsletter, lots of us are looking for comfort from our knitting, and for many of us, that means cozy afghan. These are two that I like especially - one from Noro worked in mitered squares, and one from Berroco that features lots of cables and skill-building stitches.

Skill-building afghan project

The wonderful folks at Berroco have put together a perfect project for those of you who want to build some skills, challenge your brain, or just create a lovely afghan. Designed by the inimitable Norah Gaughan, this afghan features 20 unique cabled and texture squares. We have kits in beautifully coordinated colors in both Berroco Vintage, a luxurious wool blend, and Berroco Comfort, a snuggly soft blend of acrylic and nylon.
