Victorian Curriculum- NEW Mathematics 2.0

In our last newsletter we informed you of the new Mathematics 2.0 curriculum. Now we are letting you know about the changes to student reporting for mathematics in Victorian government schools.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0). All Victorian government schools will start using the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 in 2024 or 2025. At Malvern Valley Primary we are using the revised mathematics curriculum for school reporting from Semester 1 2024.

On your child's previous report, the teacher reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.

As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.

The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.

For further information, refer to the department’s policy on Reporting Student Achievement and Progress Foundation to 10.

On Wednesday 19th June at 7:30pm, we will be holding a short reporting information session about how to read a Compass report and to unpack the new Maths curriculum. A webex link for this session will be sent out in the week prior via Compass.

This session will also help you to prepare questions you can ask at your child’s Parent Teacher Interview on Monday 24th June.

Open Afternoon- Wednesday 5th June

The next Open Afternoon will be on Wednesday 5th June at 2:40pm. This is an opportunity for you to come and visit your child/rens classroom and see all of the learning that they have been doing this term and celebrate all of the learning growth they have had. We love having our parents and family members come and see how amazing our students and teachers are!

2025 Prep Enrolments and siblings

A reminder to our current families that if you have a child starting Prep in 2025 that you must submit an enrolment application. All families must submit an application form for their child by 26th July. If you do not submit your application form, then you may miss out on an enrolment place for prep 2025. The application process allows us to plan the prep grades for 2025 as well as if we accept enrolments from out of the zone. Enrolment applications submitted after 26 July 2024 will be processed by the school as they are received, in accordance with the Department of Education's Placement Policy.

Assembly

We look forward to seeing you all at our next Assembly on Friday 7th June at 2:45pm. Our choir will be on stage to present an item to the MVPS community.

So far 2024 has been a busy year for your School Council. We’ve discussed our 4-year Strategic Plan, the financial performance of the school, professional development opportunities for our teachers, student wellbeing programs and much more! It’s a great time to be part of the MVPS school council and I’d like to thank my fellow councillors for their ongoing commitment and support for the school.

I’d also like to remind you all to please pay your school fees via Compass if you haven’t already had a chance to yet. You can pay in full or via instalments, whatever works for you. Parent payments ensure our school can offer the best possible education & support to our kids, including providing iPads and running programs like Academy. Thank you!

Thanks,

Vicki Christofilopoulos
School Council President

Advancedlife would like to apologise for the delay in the distribution of the school photographs. We recently implemented new software and systems to enhance our photo processing and delivery procedures. Unfortunately, unforeseen technical issues arose during this transition period, causing delays in editing, processing, and ultimately delivering the final products to you. We understand the importance of these school photographs, capturing precious moments and memories that will be treasured for years to come. I deeply regret that our new systems and software issues have jeopardized the timely delivery of this year’s school photo packages.
I want to assure you that every effort is being made to speed up the delivery process without compromising the quality of the final product. Measures have been put in place to prevent such delays from happening again, and we are committed to ensuring a smoother and more efficient distribution process moving forward. All our staff understand that you have placed your trust in us to capture and deliver these important school memories. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we are dedicated to making this right for you.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to serve your school community. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the delay or if you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Advancedlife directly on 9852 1133. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we are here to assist you in any way we can. Thank you for your understanding.

Please keep our community safe. A reminder that if your child is unwell, please keep them home from school. We have staff and students who are imunocompromised. Thank you.

Also, please make sure that you add the absence onto Compass. Alternatively, you can email the school at malvern.valley.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

The program is in place to assist families who may need some extra support from time to time. Should anyone require some additional support such as meals, second-hand uniforms, or assistance with pick ups/drop offs then you are able to make confidential requests by emailing MVPS Principal Amy Tinetti or emailing FOMV directly at fomv@outlook.com.au

FOMV is also seeking new helpers to join the database. If you have the capacity to be on the FOMV database, please email fomv@outlook.com.au and specify the types of assistance you can provide.

Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme

MVPS is now registered to receive donations through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme. Together we can make a positive difference to our environment and our school community. We encourage all MVPS Families to return eligible bottles/cans to the Oakleigh Return It Depot (Oxford St, Oakleigh). Once your donations have been fed through the machine click on ENTER SCHEME ID and scan our school barcode (attached), and your donation will be made to the school. Keep your receipt and give it to your teacher when we return to school and the winning class at the end of each term will receive a class prize! To check eligibility of containers just look for the 10c mark or visit cdsvic.org.au
